T.R. Knight and his Grey's pals support the WGA picketers

Entertainment Tonight posted a video that shows out actor T.R. Knight, Emmy-tastic BFF Katherine Heigl, and some of their Grey's Anatomy castmates supporting the picketing writers and explaining why the strike is important, even if it means their show may go dark as soon as next week. In a separate interview, Knight noted that next Tuesday may be the last day of shooting and that while the cast's contracts may protect them, the crew will essentially be unemployed within a week.

From the sounds of it Grey's won't be lasting much longer than the other gay-faves we mentioned yesterday, if the strike lasts (and all indications say it will, at this point).

It will be a pity

if these shows go off the air, but I believe the strikers have a valid cause.  With media content increasingly going through different avenues (e.g. online) the writers  need to make sure they are properly compensated.  Many of these writers are not fabulously wealthy and often do not get the recognition they deserve.

I agree. That being said, I

I agree.
That being said, I do feel for the crew who will all be laid off because of the strike. But that's basically in the hands of the executives.

Yeah the thing about strikes

that really sucks is the poorest paid people (who are usually not on strike) are the ones that are often hurt the most.

Okay... But

I do see the point and I understand why the writers are doing it. However as with any strike I believe that they should respect their current commitments. Yes. Going on strike in the middle of production year has the bigger impact than if they did so during hiatus. But. It's like renegotiating a contract in the middle of fullfilling its points. "Okay I agree to do a, b, c and d. Oh, wait! I did a and b, but if you want c and d done we need to talk about the payment." If I can recall, in all movies and tvshows that I watched, the person who got greedy and decided to get more money before finalizing the agreement either got caught or killed. True, I realize that the analogy isn't the best because writers are hardworking people and not perps, but still. Alright. I'm prepared for getting eaten alive for what I just wrote...

You are right they should

but in defense of the writers I think everyone is being taken by surprise in terms of the internet and how it is changing the commerce of entertainment.  Look at what is happening to the music industry.  CD sales are off more than 15% in one year!  At this rate the CD will go the way of the 8-track tape by 2012.

Their current contract ended...

...so they have fulfilled the commitments of that contract. They were in the midst of trying to negotiate a new contract when the talks broke down.

Thanks Dave

for the clarification, I think we are getting confused between the TV season and the contract term!  Usually they go hand in hand in other entertainment areas such as sports (e.g. hockey or baseball).
