Transcript: Kara DioGuardi "outs" Adam Lambert on "The View"

As we mentioned earlier, on today's The View, American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi spoke directly to the rumors surrounding Adam Lambert's sexuality.

Here's how it went down...

Barbara Walters brings up the topic by mentioning that Ryan Seacrest had reported that Adam was going to publicly address his sexuality, prompting a funny moment of confusion when the ladies misunderstood it as being about Ryan's sexuality.

Heres the full Adam discussion...

Barbara Walters: There are those who said that the black hair, the nail polish ... there are those who said that his sexuality may have made a difference, that younger women or whatever, feeling that he was perhaps gay, did not vote for him. Do you think that made any difference?

Kara DioGuardi: Well, first of all, I hope not. Because we should be judging on talent and viability in the music industry, and they both had that. Um, I don't think that Adam was ever in, so I'm ... I think he was always openly ... out.

(Generalized hensquabble from the panel as Foghorn Leghorn music plays)

BW: But did you think he was always openly out? Because that's not the perception that people have.

KD: I think he was. From what I've seen on the ... various forms of things. I do. I never thought he ... wasn't.

And Elisabeth Hasselbeck INSTANTLY changes the subject to Kara ripping her clothes off with bikini girl. Still got it, Liz!

So what do you think? Was it a fair answer? Interesting that no one applies the word "gay" directly to Adam, choosing to say "out" instead.

And I'm curious as to what these "various forms of things" are that clued her into Adam's being gay. Any guesses? I'm thinking it involves a secret needlepointing addiction...

I do not see anything wrong with what she said and

I honestly dont get the fuss over Adams *out/in* thing, If he cared he would say something.

He doesnt seem to care so why should we.

Actually, apparently Adam's

Actually, apparently Adam's reasoning for not saying anything is that he's sold his 'I'm gay' statement to RollingStone magazine for a large amount of money. The other day he said would find out 'very very very soon' and his feature in RS is coming out soon.

I've read that. But I also

I've read that. But I also read that the reason he' not talking about it is out of "respect" for Kris Allen. Since Kris won all focus should be on him, and people think that's why he's waited. And it would make sense, cause if he said it right after the finale the only thing they were gonna be talking about was Adam being gay, don't you think? The media works that way.

Agreed...

I completely agree....If Adam came out in an official kind of capacity, it would take focus off Kris. In interviews, though, he is hinting at things more and more, i.e. that pink elephant and "i like the top"--"that's inappropriate" comments.....

No boundaries

I actually agree with her that he is out, but I don't think what she said can really be considered "outing him" anyway. She basically offered an opinion, which happens to be the opinion that most other people have about Adam. He's obviously gay. There's no suspense.

If Rolling Stone want's to pay Adam Lambert to state the very

obvious fact that he is Gay Gay Gay, I say let them.

The media started this coo coo for cocoa puffs madness about "Is he or Isn't He".  Why was it even, ever a question.  He could not have been gayer and more out if he'd showed up for the auditions and sang "I'm coming out, I want the world to know, got to let it show!" while fornicating with NPH on the audition room floor.

He didn't bring it up and he never brings it up and as he has said over and over again, he is exactly what you think he is.  No one has ever asked him directly if he was gay and I've never ever heard him deny his being gay, or deny the implications of the  very available and obvious evidence of his gayocity.

If the media weren't so homophobic, they would never had treated Adam Lambert's being gay as some thing he had to announce instead of just a matter of fact descriptive term about him like "6.1, Male, Jewish"

Straight folks and (far too many gay men) seem to need him to "come out" in some freaking magazine so I say more power to him.

He's out and I bet my 401k that the second the article comes out everyone will be calling him a media whore who's capitalizing on the fact that he's gay.

He gets to be in Rolling Stone, he gets paid (I hope) and maybe, just maybe, folks will stop asking him if he's gay (not that they ever had the nerve to actually do so) and start asking him to divulge other non-secrets like the fact that he's covered in frecklesand isn't a natural brunette.

Maybe next Entertainment Weekly can break the story that Pamela Anderson has fake boobs.

Bill O'Reilly tonight??

I've been reading on many sites that Bill O'Reilly is gonna be talking a little bit about Adam Lambert tonight. I guess in response to that Idolatry interview Adam did where he talked about Bill and the pictures:

"They censored it! It was censored! I was like, is that indecent? I wasn't embarassed. I guess he was. Bill was embarassed."

Have no idea if this is true, but maybe. What Adam said about Bill doing that was so perfect, Adam wasn't embarrased, only Bill was.

Adam is the new Mika?

So all this new non-People magazine cover "outing" begs the question: Are we friends with Mika again? He's pretty much done exactly what Adam has, he just did it before it was cool. And when's his next album coming out (pardon the pun and the digression)? Sorry...I know this is an Adam thread, but considering how much went into covering Mika, if he was or wasn't gay, and then publicly denouncing him for not declaring his sexual orientation, "using" the gay community, and playing both sides (not in the fun way) and all that, I'm just curious if the site's changed it's official stance on him.
mikemgmve's picture

Personally I think it's 2

Personally I think it's 2 different situations. Adam's previous life has been online for all to see, and he's been unashamed. It seems  as tho he couldn't care less, that's he's been out and proud for along time, and it's the press that have made it an "is he?" sort of question.

Mika (and I'm a fan of his music) seemed to be a different situation. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe Mika had been asked directly, and he chose not to answer (as he has every right), but at the same time, it felt like he was playing both sides so as not to isolate any of his fans. Using, us, etc (as you already stated).

I'm sure part of it has to do with Fox's contracts, and how it seems (from the past) that the gay contestants are not to really openly talk about it, and also coupled with no one has been capable of just asking him straight out. The interviews dance around the question - and since it takes two to tango, why not dance with em?

NO!

It was not fair, it was not right, and it was not her place to answer that question with anything but vague answers and speculation....  its his decision alone to either come out or stay in or dance around the subject.... who does she (Kara) think she is, that Perez idiot!

Right

Kara was asked if the "perception" of Adam being gay might have affected his chances of winning. Barbara did not ask, "Do you think Adam is a big ol' closeted 'mo?". It was obvious that Kara had an answer prepared no matter what the question was going to be; she's not going to let Seacreast be the only one to steal Adam's thunder.

Is Best Week Ever still

Is Best Week Ever still biting on "The Soup's" format?

I LOVED Best Week Ever, with it's multiple commenters, and voice-over host, but since it switched to a single-host with only a handful of commenters, I've just completely lost my interest in the show. I even enjoyed Paul F Tompkins as a commenter - but as a host, it's a big bag of suck.

What's even more bizarre is VH1's ability to completely ignore the commenters in their own forum asking why the format change, and demanding the old-style back. I'm sure it's an economy thing and they didn't want to pay that many people to comment - but I can't imagine that they've actually gained any viewers and only lost quite a few.

BWE

I can't imagine it costs all that much for some of the low level "celebs" they used as commentators, although the pricetag on some of them may have gone up with their newfound fame.

I agree the old format was something different (and yet meshed well with their "I Love the [Decade]'s" shows.  I used to watch both The Soup and BWE, but now only watch The Soup.

For a second

I thought they were going to ask him, "are you tall?" This wasn't the exact interview I asked for, but close enough and too, too funny.

Adam looked even sexier with those glasses on!!

Too funny the clip!

Idol Judge Outing Adam

I think what that nearly useless judge on Idol said refers to at least one of the videos of Adam on YouTube in which he has blonde hair, is in red pants and is prancing around in a VERY gay manner. There are also a couple of more videos in which he seems to not be 'trying to pass'. In my meager opinion, this whole season of Idol, he toned his 'gayness' down to what he was wearing BECAUSE he was clever enough and already a wise enough superstar in the making that he knew it would cost him as the voting went along. You know the old habit of middle America. It's like your parents: "They have a way of NOT seeing."

Kris says some wonderful things

Sry for posting all these links, but there is so much Adam news right now :D This is an interview w/ Kris Allen though, but please read it cause he says some great things about Adam and about how everyone should accept each other and so on. I love that he keeps talking about things like this, and I love their friendship.

http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/05/kris-allen.html

here's what he said at the end:

On his frustration with Christians who wouldn't accept Adam Lambert.
There [were all these rumors] about how all the conservative, Christian people that would vote for me hate Adam and never want him to win because of who he is. Oh, it was so frustrating—really bad, because we are really good friends. Why can't everyone get along? It never made any sense for me to judge anyone, who they are. It frustrates me that people can't get along with people because of their differences. And I'll tell you what, especially Christians. Christians have a hard time accepting people like Adam—liberal, from L.A., looks different, maybe acts a certain way. He's a great, great guy. They don't even give him a chance. And it's frustrating because I come from that. A lot of my friends are not that way, which I appreciate, but a lot of people in Arkansas or in the South or wherever are that way. We really hope that our relationship can be an inspiration to people. I could go on about that forever.

Kris is a great guy

First, I was personally thoroughly pleased that Adam and Kris were the final two--they were clearly the most talented musically of the bunch, each with their own special approach and technique.

Second, one of the the under-appreciated aspects of all this is that we see a terrific friendship between a young, flamboyant gay man and a young, Southern Christian straight man. They clearly like and respect each other, and it's a dynamic that is rarely seen in the mainstream media, and, honestly, probably reflects a certain reality moreso than what the media would let us believe. One could say this relationship is indicative of the future, that we can get along and learn to love and respect each other.

So, kudos to Kris for saying this.

I love their friendship.

I love their friendship.

You mean ~*~relationship~*~.  /tinhat  (What? He said it!)

Kris is so cute and such a great person.  I love that he keeps harping on this 'why can't we all get along' shtick and that he specifically called out the Christians who have issues accepting (not simply tolerating!) "people like Adam".

Adam Lambert's Mother Talks Sex and Contracts:

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b126542_adam_lamberts_mother_talks_sex_contracts.html

Leila says she also signed a contract with American Idol and is not allowed to discuss her son’s personal life anyway without their permission.
"We signed a contract with Idol and unless it has been set up by them, I'm not allowed to answer," says Leila.

That's creepy.  You can only imagine what he had to sign.  It's particularly ridiculous given Kara's statements this morning, but maybe that was an "Oops" as far as Idol is concerned.

She - rightly - says that she doesn't want to talk about it till he does anyway, but it's still a bit crazy.  I'm wondering if all contestants' families had to sign such a contract. Also, they really should have had Adam's brother sign something, since he has directly stated that Adam's gay on the Something Awful forum.
