Two Gay Guys video blog: The AfterElton Hot 100

Two Gay Guys are back after a few weeks off, and what was it that brought Michael and Brent back to the vlog?

Hot men!

Yes, the guys are back to discuss the results of the AfterElton.com Hot 100 poll, and they even invite a few of our other vloggers (Flaming Politics' Japhy Grant and Mores for Gays' Daniel Leary) to weigh in on the list. Who are their favorite entries, and what do they think the list says about contemporary pop culture?

"It takes a village (to make Village People)"

Japhy's "satirical" comments may be the best argument for keeping politics off the Afterelton Hot 100 list.  First of all, it assumes that a significant number of us follow politics closely enough to even get the Gyllenhaal/Barrowman reference (it appears to refer to Hillary Clinton's widely misinterpreted remark that Robert Kennedy was not assassinated until June of 1968 and therefore the nomination "process," for that year at least, continued into June).  Then, inadvertantly, I believe, he reminds us by his comment that Heath Ledger is, indeed, dead, a fact that, for those of us who are still in mourning, kind of trivializes the whole list.  I know I'm liable to be flamed for even bringing this up, but, I must say, it really left a bad taste in my mouth.  Go ahead and make your Hillary jokes--although God knows what she's done to deserve them--but don't drag Heath and Jake into the "process."

Without weighing in on the appropriateness of discussing politics in the context of this list, I have to agree that the first thing those remarks brought to my mind was Ledger's death. It was a very unfortunate attempt at a joke that also left a bad taste in my mouth.

gale...king?

The comment about gale being the king...I wonder where that came from...i mean, i know he played a very popu...er, well known character on QAF.....but i also notice there are quiiiite a lot of gay men who hated his character.....

Maybe i misunderstood the use of king or the message in general (was it sarcasm maybe??)

I'm still surprised jake was 1....really really realllyyyy thought it'd be JB.

Questionable taste

1: John Barrowman, though marginally attractive in a JC Penny's catalogue sort of way, is annoying beyond comprehension. Every story I hear of his supposedly "ribald hijinks" reassures me that if I were to be in his presence for more than 5 minutes, I would, undoubtedly, be force to smack him, hard, and repeatedly.

2: Rufus Wainwright, though a talented song writer and composer has the most horribly nasal singing voice this side of Dwight Yoakum with a head cold. I've tried and tried, but listening to him is like nails on a chalkboard.

3. Mario Lopez? seriously?

4. Daniel, Gale Harold is not my leader. And I think Jared Leto made the list because so few people have seen him with the extra weight. With or without it, he's a tool.

5. Japhy: Dah-leks, not Day-leks, but personally, I found the Barrowman/Gyllenhall statements hysterical. It highlights the riduculousness of the Democratic nomination process

6. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts...Luke McFarlane is dreamy, and NPH is awesometeen!

There's more to Barrowman than just "ribald hijinks"

Brock Savage, Barrowman's not like that all the time. He's a perfectly decent and sensible bloke deep down, the ribald bits are just part of his... what should I call it? "Public Persona"? It may be the side he shows the most to the public, but it's far from his only side. For instance, he didn't do anything raunchy at all when he appeared on programs such as "Heaven & Earth" or "A Taste of my Life" (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3).

"It takes a village (to make Village People)"

He may not be "like that all the time," but that's fast becoming his public persona.  Interviews such as the following, in which he reminisces about playing the piano with his penis, only fuel the ribald flames:

Hilarious!

Thanks, Hick, for making my afternoon.

Something that I really like about these clips (besides the fun John shares with everyone) is the humanity that shines through Lord Webber. I remember seeing this on the Grease reality show as well, but you can really see on these clips that he cares about nurturing young talent. Good for him.

a taste of my life actually was the show to convince me that barrowman was one of the "good" ones

graham norton described barrowman jokingly as Cocky Slightly Annoying Loveable Show Off - and I think much of barrowman's appeal lies in exactly this combination.
Actually I too feel an increase in the "annoying" part -  because of all this private parts & farting stories and - well - because there's a certain repetitiveness. I have already heard the story of his scottish accents 5 times too often - at least.

I think there is a genuine warmth and amiability about him and I think he should rely on that

Gale Harold King comment

Clearly the Gale Harold comment was a joke. However, the character he played, Brian Kinney toped the list for most memorable (or favorite) gay characters on TV on the AfterElton poll last year (most likely because he elicits such strong and polarizing emotions from viewers). Clearly enough gay/bi men aggree with Danel for him to have made that statement.
