Update: Gay stereotypes still stereotypical, unfunny

You know, it's funny (or is it unfunny?) -- every time you think things have changed for the better when it comes to homophobic jokes and negative gay stereotyping, something new drags itself out of the ooze and plops itself on your stoop to stink up the joint.

Such a fossil is the Workout from the Pen video series running over at Heavy.com. What's Heavy.com? Beats me -- but it's powered primarily by ads for deodorant and dried meat products, so I leave you to come to your own conclusions.

Workout from the Pen is a supposedly humorous series of exercise videos that are made by actors pretending to be prison inmates. Which, if it were done with an iota of wit or intelligence, could actually be funny -- heck, even a stupid comedy like Let's Go to Prison managed to add some cleverness to some otherwise well-worn territory.

Anyway, here's an example of one of the more cringe-inducing episodes:

Is there a single cliche that WASN'T covered in that skit? I guess they deserve credit for being thorough.

At first we were reticent to jump to a conclusion about Heavy.com and the forces that make it what it is, but a search of their video content comes up with no positive gay images or characters, but plenty of the converse. Sure, I get that a site perforated with pictures and videos of nearly-naked girls isn't exactly centering its crosshairs on me as a target viewer. But when will comedy writers learn that rampant, unapologetic heterosexuality and gay-friendliness aren't mutually exclusive concepts?
