Update: T.R. Knight is looking to get out of his "Grey's Anatomy" scrubs, contract

Yesterday we mentioned a blog rumor from an unnamed source within the Grey's Anatomy compound that out actor T.R. Knight was unhappy with his recent storylines and had requested to be released from his contract.

Last evening Entertainment Tonight took a momentary break from reporting on Donny and Marie Osmond's bowel movements to report that a rep from the show had issued a rather unconvincing and vaguely-worded denial.

Now alpha gossip gay Michael Ausiello is reporting that while Knight is still reporting to work, he has requested that the show release him from his contract and that they are planning on doing so. He also adds that Knight is not the actor mentioned in his recent "who is Grey's looking to fire?" blind item...

On the one hand, this sucks. Knight has been through the mill on that set and it's a bummer to see one of the few out leading men on television leaving the role that launched his career. I mean, first Eric Millegan (Bones), now Knight?! I hope that together they're secretly building an island populated entirely by puppy-dog-eyed gay cuties.

But on the other hand, Grey's is, in the eyes of many, a sinking ship at this point, so maybe it's best for Knight to get while the getting is good. Either way, we'll be watching closely to see what he does next!

sinking ships

I agree Knight might be better off seeking other projects. I wish him well.

Kudos for the Donnie and Marie line. Seriously who cares about either of those talentless hacks besides ET? There's another sinking ship.

hm...

ya know, i haven't watched GA since 'gizzie' decided to hook up.

....with that said, i have heard the show has just gone downhill from there. I believe people should run and run fast if a show is going to hell...so if T.R. feels that way, all the more power to him.

lmao, plus i hear that izzie is having sex with the ghost of denny. ummm.......

Even if Grey's is a sinking

Even if Grey's is a sinking ship, it's stupid of TR if he wants to quit the show, I don't think it'll be that easy for him to find a new acting job i H-wood. If this is true though, I hate GA more than ever, this year they have done so many stupid mistakes and the writing of the show has been bad, people leaving all the time and even dead people coming back to talk to the living (denny and Izzie). And why haven't they given George a good storyline this season, or any storyline for that matter? He was one of the characters most people liked from the start, but now they've completley ruined his character, like they have with most of the characters on that show. If this is true, I will not warch another GA episode ever.

I'm not too worried about T.R.

Assuming these stories are accurate. T.R. has a pretty extensive theatrical background so I think he will go on working, even if not on TV. I've heard stories about how miserable that set is and sometimes you just have to chew your leg off to get out of these kind of situations. Actually, I've heard that Heigl wants out of her contract so I'm not sure any of these stories are actually about TR.

Have him come out

I think George should come out on the show, why should his ex-wife have all the gay trysts? I mean, the comedy of the two of them both seeking solace in the same-sex after the break up may be an overused trope... but still, might make the show more watchable.

He's adorable

and I wish him well finding other projects, because I think he's good at his craft, and that we need more out working actors - but I doubt I'll notice his departure.  I'm still watching, but George isn't even there anymore.  Once in a while he's in the background, even more rarely he asks another character if they're OK.  He doesn't have a storyline, and I think the show had de facto fired him already, long before he asked to leave.

Did you mix up those 2

Did you mix up those 2 blind items? Ausiello from ew.com had a blind item of some actor/actress from some show (and it wasn't about TR)  and Kristin from eonline.com had a blind item of one GA actor/actress. Everyone thought they'd be about the same person which still might be the case but then it would be another cast member of Grey's not TR.

But yeah, can't really blame TR for wanting to find another place to work.

While I don't think T.R.

While I don't think T.R. will ever land as high profile a role again, and say what you will about Grey's but it is still a top five ranked show and the number one show in the coveted 18-49 yr. old demographic, I can understand why he wants to leave.  None of us would want to work in an environment where our employers did nothing while one of our fellow co-workers bullied people or made the work environment hell.  It must be hard for him to go in day after day and remember all that has happened.  So, even though this is a bad move career wise, it is probably the best move for him personally.

ABC and the networks are desparate

Primetime television is a total mess.  ABC shows have been the hardest hit with more cancellations than the other networks as a result of the Writer’s Strike.  Gone are the innovative shows like Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, and Eli Stone; and just last night was the finale to the highly lauded BOSTON LEGAL.  In are more, procedural cop shows, the retro cop LIFE ON MARS and more reality shows. Nine of the top twenty scripted television shows are crime shows. No doubt because of the fact that most white male heterosexuals over 40 control the remote. All the shows on all the networks seem to look the same with a few intolerable sitcoms interspersed with them.  Have you seen the unwatchable GARY UNMARRIED or WORST WEEK?

If TR is leaving GRAY’S ANATOMY he better have something good lined up because very few subordinate characters get a second show let alone a huge hit.  Since he and Katherine Heigel are best buds, perhaps they are going off together to form a production company ala what Lisa Kudrow did with her best gay pal, and former actor too, Dan Bucatinsky.  It would make sense.  He could, of course go back to the theater world, but for much less pay and lower visibility, I don’t think his overzealous handlers, whose income depends on keeping him working for top dollar, are not going to be too happy with that idea.  It can also be a ploy for forthcoming salary negotiations.  They, however, have to get through the Actor’s strike that day by day is becoming more and more a probability.  It could all wreak havoc on everything.  Struggling shows won’t survive and even former hits may fall under the axe, and Grey’s is definitely on that list with its decline in audience, decline in writing and increasing costliness it could not survive another strike. That’s all I am saying...
