As you may have heard by now, Van Hansis sadly did not win the Daytime Emmy Award on Friday for his portrayal of gay teen Luke Snyder on As the World Turns. But he and Jake Silbermann were on-hand at the ceremony as the handsomest couple of presenters in the house, and were fittingly tasked with presenting Ellen Degeneres with her umpteenth well-deserved Emmy for her talk show.

Are they both wearing cowboy boots?
Not their best look, really
These boys always look great, but I don't like the orange, and Jake is usually much better dressed than this. But maybe I'm not hip enough to appreciate what they were going for.
I didn't get to watch the show. Who were their respective dates?
I think Van wore those same shoes to the GLAAD awards too
I like his shoes, but the shirt is really bold for tv. He has the presonality to pull it off, though.
I believe Van's guests were his parents. I'm not sure about Jake.
Love The Shirt
That's sweet
I believe Van's guests were his parents. I'm not sure about Jake.
That's sweet. But I was really hoping he would take Tyler Hanes. They make such a stunningly handsome couple-- I wish there were more pictures of them together floating around out there.
Why do I ask about ATWT?
I still continue to ask the same thing of this soap (ATWT). A show who's spokesperson, Tharrington, has inferred that they have been in collusion with the AFA. It seems for the last 10 months they've been presenting a 'world view' of "love the sinner, hate the sin." The AFA stance. Now, ATWT are asked to present Ellen, who actually is a trail blazer, with her Emmy award and we all cheer, WHY?
And why is it that all we want to talk about is the shoes they wore? Obviously, this isn't a momentous moment, and we all know it. It's a disgraceful moment.
I don't get it; is there a Gay Mafia and is Elton, or sombody at P&G really the head of it, or is this some GUPPY thing that I just can't understand because I love people more than fame and money? Is this progress for the sake of a red carpet party? Or superficial acknowledgment just for the sake of someday encouraging change? Are we confident enough to accept that gay people deserve love and derision in equal measure, and that that is progress? And is that what Ellen now represents: a half-way token of acceptance? Why are our real heros, like Ellen, besmeared by having to take an award from a half-assed, sorta gay, sorta inclusive couple like Luke and Noah. Ellen is the true hero. ATWT are the fakes riding on her coattails.
Why do we continue to celebrate the step backward while at the same time rob the step forward of it's validity. Luke and Noah are no where in the same ball park as Ellen, not even the same league. And we want to talk about an orange shirt and the cut of his trousers? Wha...?
Maybe we just need to be Melissa Rivers. Is that the Circus that goes with the Bread of corporate 'partners' benifits? I just don't get it. Does it just come down to: if you let us be Melissa we are okay with everything else? We are okay with the AFA. I mean, I know the schtick, just let me know who I'm suppose to be? Right?

I don't understand your objection
To clarify, I believe *do* understand your objections to ATWT. But that does not really have anything to do with this situation. Ellen was receiving an award from the Emmys, not from Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann, not from CBS, not from PGP, not from ATWT, and definitely not from Luke and Noah, who are fictional characters.
Van and Jake were presenting the award (not giving the award) on behalf of the Emmys because they are daytime actors and often daytime actors present Daytime Emmy awards. There was no special significance to them being the ones to present, except for those people who really like Jake and Van. For those fans, it was nice to have a chance to see the guys on tv. (And most fans don't blame the actors for the fault of the producers.)
And, for the record, I agree that it's pretty clear that PGP was placating the AFA in regards to Nuke's storylines. But PGP has nothing to do with the Emmys.
No significance to ATWT?
There are many, many, many people who could have been chosen to present the award to Ellen. I can name hundreds. The fact that Van and Jake (who as a couple are inseparable from their roles as Luke and Noah) were presenting the award to out and gay Ellen is undeniable.
How many other soap opera couples presented awards at the Emmy's in tandem? How many second string actors from a soap presented awards. Can you name any? You can not hide behind the fact that they are "just actors." Because if that were true, why didn't they present separately? Why didn't they present with other actors then each other? Why did they present an award to an out gay celebrity, Ellen, who was sure to win? Van and Jake were on that stage to represent ATWT and their "Love the Sinner" story line. They were there to present an award to a real hero. The irony is palpable. The fact that we would rather talk about their shoes is disturbing.
Yes, Ellen was receiving an award from the Emmy's, but the producers of the Emmy's decided to make this a moment to push the Luke and Noah story-line and associate it with Ellen. That is my complaint. It's like having the actors who played Amos and Andy present Bill Cosby with an Emmy, so that their show wouldn't look so stereotypical.

What is the deal with the bottom of Nuke's pants?
Ask Dear Gabby
afhickman
"It takes a village (to make Village People)"
Dear Whippersnapper:
What kind of danged fool question is that? We tend to wear our cuffs rolled up or stuffed inside our boots around the ranch. If you'd ever been in a stable, you'd understand why. This Van Hansis kid can bunk at my place any time!
Gabby
P.S. I'll throw in a little cheesecake for you:
A little Gabby will get me
Time in a stable
Oh, Gabby, my love --
I've totally spent enough time in stables to understand what you're talking about. Maybe little Van's bunched-up cuffs was a subliminal message to you. He'll be at your bunkhouse before you can say "Happy Pride Day!"
not the most flatering of
not the most flatering of pictures to say the least. but hey, you get what you get eh?
it is nice to see that the Emmy's at least had them presenting together - perhaps a small step further out of the US daytime tv "closet"
haha wow....
those are some serious heels on van's shoes.....
as for ellen, i gotta say it was kind of embarrassing when rachel ray won....the cheers/applause for her was pretty lame...and it was so obvious that ellen was unhappy about her loss which was amusing, seeing as she was probably trying show that she was happy for rachel...but yeah...she obviously was not.... :-P
speaking of rachel ray....anyone else find her extremely annoying? she's like too too too too too happy. it's just creepy.
I thought Ellen won.
she won...
I thought that Silberman
I thought that Silberman looked great, although as someone stated earlier, he needed to re-tie his tie.
Hansis, unfortunately, looked like he was dressed up for a Halloween party. And his vest looked like a corset.
They both have great smiles, though.
I was waiting for Ellen to tell Van "You was robbed."
But, sadly, she didn't.
I guess the boys' black outfits are Mourning Coats, what with Noah leaving to join the military.
I hope Luke transfers to NYU and gets his own show on Logo. This mess...CBS/P&G get a big, fat "F" for the end of this storyline.
I thought the same.
Van has to wear some
Van has to wear some serious heels to make up the difference between his and Jake's height. In one photoshoot I saw Van had to stand on a phone book to bring himself up to Jake's height.
Still, Van is a cutey though, and besides, it all evens out horizontally.
I know!
6 ft. 1? I don't think so!
Absolutely!
Emmy Awards: Thoughts and musings
The major topic of outfits is too gay for me. I liked Van's shirt it was an offbeat choice but he certaily stood out in a very elegant way The Black tie thing is so not creative and only a few people can carry it off with sophistication i.e,. George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck. Van and Jake seemed at ease and not overwhelmed by the evening.
Most of the show was caca to me since I never know who half these people are any way Gwen getting an Emmy seems so wrong to me. I hope they don't bring her back. As for Carly well who knew that scenery chewer was so highly regarded. Thank God I don't have to cast that show.
I loved Sherri Shepard hosting, her star is really rising with every challenge she takes. Cameron Mathison is just trying too hard. He has that over eager thing that gets grating very quickly. La Lucci is always fabulous, but isn't she a great grandmother to some of the other characters on AMC. Regis speech sounded like he was reciting his resume for some B-roll in a documentary.
BTW David Hernandez over at OUT IN HOLLYWOOD has a brief chat with Holden and his thoughts on having a gay son on ATWT.
Sad for Van
But to be honest, I dont think he deserved it.
They are both looking great. The shirt is fine in itself, but the color is too bright for that type of suit. It makes the higher cut of the vest too evident. Makes him look...not exactly right.
Robert Calhoun?
Yes, it's the same Bob Calhoun
He was associate producer of Guiding Light under Gail Kobe and then became executive producer of ATWT for many years. I'm pretty sure he at both during their Douglas Marland eras. He was a nice man and very well-liked. I knew he was gay but never knew he was Farley Granger's partner until the book came out.
Stylist
Van actually needs a stylist and needs to stop dressing himself. It is a shame as he is nice looking man and his outfits are distracting - that shirt was a bad choice and he will look back and realize what a mistake it was. You also have to not wear the same cloths several times when you appear on Television as they show up in print over and over as has that suit and shoes. Hopefully he will get some feedback from this look and make some changes - sometimes it just takes reaching a certain level of success for someone to make these professional changes, however with having had two Emmy nominations someone should have come to him with some tips, but maybe he felt he knew what he was doing - who knows.
Jake at least was in a classic look which never goes out of style and is timeless........they are both still young and finding their look and I am sure with time will find their way.
