In today's Videodrama we're pleased to present an All Catherine Tate edition. It seems that the comic from the UK has been running a "Gay Johnny" storyline on her sketch comedy show, and it's pretty funny. Check out the four clips below to get up to speed (warning: the last clip has a bit of "language" at the end). Big thanks to Gareth for the tip!
You're a bit late on the uptake arn't you Brian? ;) This is from last year's series. But it is hilarious. I love Catherine Tate, I have all her DVDs. She has quite a few gay sketches including Derek Faye, who just because he likes to live with his mother, doesn't mean he likes to take it up the 'dirt-track' or the like.
...IIRC, BBC America only just aired her show and the show didn't get the amount of publicity it deserves (overall, BBC America's pretty bad at getting their shows noticed, partly because they have so many shows to promote with those 6-8 episode seasons).
I hate to admit it, but I can't watch her show without the closed captions. Some of her characters are ones I'd have a hard time understanding if they spoke with an American accent (most notably that student character). She's totally brilliant, though.
I quite like Catherine Tate, the sketches with Derek (who dear?, me dear?, gay dear?, no dear!). My favourite sketch is the comic relief one with Lauren (the student character) meeting Tony Blair, where he starts using her catchphrases at her.
And for Doctor Who fans, she's now been anounced as the new companion for the next series (reprising her role from last years xmas special)
