Watch the first trailer for "Pedro"

A few weeks back we reported that a biopic of Real World alum and AIDS activist Pedro Zamora was on its way, thanks in part to gay screenwriter Dustin Lance Black and gay producers (and partners) Wash Westmoreland and Richard Glatzer (Quinceanera).

Pedro will premiere on a variety of MTV's networks (including Logo, who owns this site) on April 1 at 8PM EDT.

What do you think of the trailer above?

It Looks Sweet

Like Pedro's time on The Real World, I am glad this story is being told.

Is this trailer region-blocked?

It's not working for me in Canada.

Try again

Try again. Its working for me in Canada. There was a slight delay (couple of seconds) in the play option showing up but that was the only trouble I had with it.

It seems to be working properly now.

Story must be told

Pedro actually made a difference in my life way back when, and I'm really glad his story is being told - I think that today we need heroes like Pedro, people willing to stand up and say "I'm here, and I matter."  With DLB and the producers in charge, I'm sure they'll do it justice.

If I had one gripe with that trailer, I remember Pedro as being very soft-spoken  - this actor seems a little more forceful than my admittedly foggy memory recalls.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember Pedro as quietly confidant and dignified.

Pedro

Wow, this took me back 15 years. Pedro was a pioneer on many different fronts. It looks like this will be a well done biopic. He was so important to so many of us on this site. It reminds me of how far we have come in 15 years in our thoughts, understanding and perception of HIV. Pedro will forever be GREATLY missed, but I can't wait to see this celebration of his extraordinary life.

I'd rather see real footage

Wouldn't it have made more sense to take MTV footage and re-edit it into a movie version of the story intercut with new interviews and unseen footage? This movie really does not look good. The acting looks stilted and there's something just weird about having actors play Real World housemates.

Documentary idea

That would be a good idea for more of a documentary style film. I disagree about the acting--I think it looks good from what the trailer shows, particularly from the actor playing Pedro.

Pedro

Pedro was a hero and a true role model for so many people. His courage alone is adimerable.

This movie looks good, it's an important movie with an important story to tell, not just about Pedro himself, but about HIV/AIDS work, and how important this is still today.
