Welcome, Wanda! Sykes comes out as a proud lesbian at a Las Vegas Join the Impact rally

This past Saturday people gathered all over the country in the name of equal rights for all citizens, with demonstrations drawing tens of thousands of supporters in some cities. But a gathering in Las Vegas had special resonance when television comic and actress Wanda Sykes came out as a proud lesbian woman to a cheering crowd. It had long been speculated that Sykes was gay but the actress had not felt compelled to speak about her private life publicly, until Proposition 8 forced the issue.

A big round of applause to Sykes, and your welcome basket is on the way. Although I have to wonder, how many conservative Americans will be scarred to know that they've been going to dinner at Applebee's at the urgings of - GASP - a gay apple?

Thanks Wanda!

Wanda Sykes coming out is great for our side. Hopefully this will inspire more Hollywood people to come out which will probably change even more peoples minds for the better.

Besides, Gay Apples taste the best.

Wonder Woman

This is going to sound horrible but it's the honest to go truth, I had a hunch that Wanda might be batting some averages on our team but this wasn't just a confirmation for me or my lagging gaydar but it was more of a confirmation to the simple fact that gay people come in all color, shapes and sizes.  I was a fan of her T.V. show and for some reason, even when the episode would have her dating a guy, it just seem like a wrong fit.  Not that she extra fem or butch, she just is this unique blend of both.  I used to watch her on the HBO on the boy's club of club, NFL football and she would steal the show.  I love J-lo and Jane Fonda but 'Monster-in-Law was nothing without Wanda.  She is just funny without being overly funny.

I'm so proud that she finally came out publicly for herself and the beauty of her coming out was the fact, that she just didn't come out as a lesbian but she came out as a recently-married-lesbian, who was a bit ticked off about the tragedy, we all now know as 'Proposition 8'.  Within in time, everyone will be able to publicly come out but that a personal decision that I know it isn't as easy as it should be to make.
