Your Gay of the Week: Bishop Gene Robinson

When I came up with this feature a few months ago I really never expected to see a man of the cloth smiling at us from the jaunty Gay of the Week button in the left-hand sidebar, but I guess that's a testament to just how fast the world is changing.

Below, you can find out just how and why Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson earned the love of the gay voting public this week (not to mention Aretha's hat!), and by what margins he ruthlessly smashed the dreams of his opponents.

Why he won: Despite not being broadcast as a part of the We Are One pre-Inauguration concert, Bishop Robinson kept a cool head and earned the support of millions. Plus, he later went on The Daily Show and cracked up Jon Stewart, which was pretty boss.

How he won: Bishop Robinson earned 52% of the votes, giving him an overwhelming win. Birthday boy Luke Macfarlane came in second with 27%, and Marc St. James from Ugly Betty and Ravi Roy from Hollyoaks trailed with 13% and 7%, respectively.

Past wins: This is Bishop Robinson's first nomination and win.

We'll see you on Friday, when your votes will determine whether Bishop Robinson will hold on to the crown or lose it to one of the new challengers.

Check specifically your "Past wins" section - Noah and his pants don't go well with the Bishop, just with Luke or me.  ;)

52% ?

52% is that the largest percentage anyone has had to earn the crown?

Can't recall anyone getting over 50% before, but maybe I'm wrong.

Aretha's hat actually looks good on the Bishop, however, given his comment on the Daily Show he really should have been given the crown.
