ATWT video clip update: Valentine's Day and Nuke is on shore leave

It's Valentine's Day and As the World Turns must be accepting payola from Hallmark for all the greeting card product placement they did today. Every couple exchanged cards (and greeting card sentiments) including Luke & Noah.

And it being Valentine's Day, pretty much every ATWT couple kissed except Luke & Noah. Aaargh!. Clearly, The Powers That Be think those Kansas grandmas just aren't quite ready to see two men kissing during daytime television.

Noah starts to imagine what life would be like for him if he'd never met Luke. Turns out he'd be in the navy. In a fantasy sequence, we see Noah looking dashing in his pea coat and departing for shore leave with a fellow sailor, who suggests they go for a lap dance.

Noah begs off and, Bob Damron guide in hand (kidding!), takes a walking tour of Manhattan. He bumps into Luke on the library steps and after recovering some important papers, Luke offers to act as Noah's guide.

The boys head to Greenwich Village, and Luke points out historical sites (including Stonewall!) On a tugboat ferry over to the Statue of Liberty, alterna-Luke admits that he's gay. How will this sailor alterna-Noah respond?

Watch today's clip below to find out. If you haven't already, check out Brian's Liveblog from earlier today. You can find earlier liveblogs and video clips over on our ATWT Resource Page.

In totally unrelated news. Our very own Dan McCallum will be Livbeblogging Make me a Supermodel tonight starting at 10:00pm. It's a nail-biter since fan favorite gay boy Ronnie Kroeller (pictured middle, below) is up for possible elimination tonight.

    Hmmm

Clearly they've been told "No kissing" for the time being.

But WOW, they're really pushing it as far as they can go, aren't they? Very romantic!

A&F Should Sell a Luke and Noah Line of Clothing

Maybe CBS would give us more if a big clothing store were licensed to sell striped sweaters, t-shirts, scarves, and the famous first kiss tie! Our boys can become the trend setters for young gay fashion ensuring their storyline and characters as well as money for ATWT. Hey, I'm desperate for anything idea that might make a difference.

    Nuke: So lame it hurts!

My God that was awful!  It was so embarrassingly bad that it was torture to sit through!

Just another day in the life of TV's favorite platonic "gay" couple.  I'm sorry but it's not even remotely believable anymore.  The "romance" has become so cartoonish that suspension of disbelief is simply impossible.

ATWT is, at best, a decade behind the rest of TV, network and cable alike, in their depiction of a gay relationship.  There's nothing groundbreaking of revolutionary about Nuke, no matter how much the producers are patting themselves on the back.

Nuke's chaste relationship is so astonishingly Victorian that they might as well not even be gay at all, just two really close friends.  At this point I wouldn't be taken aback in the slightest if they both went and got girlfriends because there's just no chemistry in their relationship.  They really do come across as an old-fashioned platonic friendship like men used to indulge in before modern homophobia hit.

I've officially relegated this to the back of my TV priorities.  It's there to be monitored to see if anything develops, but it's not worth bothering to actually watch on any kind of regular basis.

CBS just lost a potential new viewer

    *shudders*

Gawd that was painful to watch.

You really have to feel for Jake and Van. Two talented actors who have done outstanding jobs with the previous material, but to be given this! Sailor Noah was in a lot of pain, but was it from being scared and lonely or was it Jake's feelings about the material coming through ? No spark or magic at all today between the two.

I'm too much of a dreamer I guess. Thought that if at any time the powers that be would try and get it right it would have been today's special. (and I'll give them credit, when they have gotten it right they have done a really great job). But to give the viewers that "what if" and to top it off with the other five straight couples being allowed kisses.

In agreement with you Psionycx. I was at the point were I was getting ready to be daily watcher of the show. However, I'm now going to revert to my old ways and just pick up on the story from what I get here at After Elton. I too will monitor but I feel the outlook is bleak. CBS just lost a potential new viewer today.

    they lost....

they lost some viewers on the mistletoe incident (me included) and today...well, today i can see they just lost a whooooole lot more....shame.

funny thing - - when i watch a show like brothers and sisters....i eventually stop seeing kevin and scotty as a "gay" couple and just see them as a couple, because whoa....they're written like every other couple...problems and all....

when a show writes everyone like everyone else (gay or not), their sexuality flies over my head...BUUUUT when a show constantly has to make gay references or avoid a kiss (a kiss of all things?) because the characters are gay.....well, i become bored with it because it's too "in your face"

hope that made sense. basically....atwt has idiot writers and i feel embarrassed for van and jake. they should just leave the show. they deserve better.

    Excellent letter. Congratulations!

They really need to hear that some of us, even their so-called core audience, can't stand what they have done and there are consequences to be paid for toying with us one too many times. BTW, great blog entry on the creator of ATWT.

    I'm done with this show.

I'm done with this show.  I've been hanging on because I want to support Van and Jake, who have done a great job with really pathetic material.  But the fact is ATWT is clearly jerking us around and has no intention of showing Nuke as a real couple.  They have had multiple opportunities to address the fan outrage over the Mistletoe incident and have chosen again and again to slap us in the face.

I'll stick to Hollyoaks where guys who are in love actually kiss and even have sex (gasp!).

CBS, apprently, is stuck in 1953.

Thank ATWT for the slap in the face

The hand-hold and hug of the daydream shore leave segment didn't bother me. What floored me was Luke leaning in and Noah snapping back. I thought the character was over that.

To put it all in context, there's this clip on Youtube showing ALL the other couples kissing from today's show.

To add insult to injury, a fan called the comment line and the lady who answered admitted that there are special restrictions about the boys kissing. Finally someone over at ATWT admits that there's something going on. What a fucking shame!

    Exploitation

In the first scene Luke go's to kiss Noah, and just as he is about to, he pulls away. Apparently one of the shows producers walks by and scares him off. That is out of character because Luke has made a point in the past of pushing Noah for PDA, while Noah remained reluctant.

This is just the foreshadowing of a horrible slap ATWT delivers to gay relationships. While all the other couples on the episode do kiss, Noah and Luke are paraded through gay landmarks just to remind us all that we too, should be ashamed to kiss. Proctor and Gamble have changed their tune. When it was good for publicity, a single gay kiss was sensational. When they have an opportunity to show a gay couple in the same loving embrace as their straight counterparts, on Valentine's Day for gosh sakes -it's too disgusting to even imagine.

    You know...

Ive been following a soap in Germany with a similar storyline, and I say similar only because they are a couple of guys -Deniz and Roman-, everything else is completely different.

The story has been handled very sensibly and realisticly, there is a lot of kissing, hugging, handholding, a few bedroom scenes, lockerroom snogging and even a couple of very suggestive shower scenes. Completely out of ATWT league, and actually very hot.

Whats the problem? Apparently they have been caving too. Out of the blue, a random girl (to the guys at least) beggings to hang out and suddenly Deniz becomes bisexual and falls in love with this girl and its about to dump Roman. The buzz: the character is too popular to be in a homosexual relationship so they make him straight...I mean bisexual.

The fans are in an uproar and a good chunk have stopped watching, since apparently its a done deal.

Since I think Nukes storyline is related (copy) to John Paul/Craig in Hollyoaks, I hope ATWT did not find their way out because a certain scenario sounds awfully familiar. Really hope not. I am one who will hold on for a while for this new arc, but if it doesnt pick up soon I will be gone. Since Nuke it is not a done deal yet.

    Pathetic!!

I really did throw the towel in on this storyline after the Christmas episode when they pulled away from the kiss under the mistletoe. It was such an insult to the viewers and a middle finger to gay viewers in particular, that I haven't watched the show since. Now after reading on this site as well as a couple of others at how upset everyone is over this past episode, I decided to go watch the Noah/Luke Valentine's Day special on YouTube. And you know what...it really doesn't suprise me at all. Let's face it, its been almost five months since they last kissed with a lot of side stepping along the way. It is apparent that the powers that be over at CBS and ATWT don't give a damn about this storyline, they don't give a damn about the Luke and Noah fans, and are now clearly taking the piss. At this point it's become an embarrassment for all involved including Jake and Van who's own intergrity could be affected. I actually feel sorry for them having to take part in this debacle.

All they throw out is excuse after excuse while the poor fans watch in hope of the storyline turning a corner. The fans wait in hope that maybe a little stolen kiss somewhere will happen, but it's now five months and counting. All the ranting and raving, sending in kisses, Emailing and writing has done NOTHING!! These people DO NOT CARE!!  And this I find very sad, because I know the fans really wanted this storyline to work.

Afterelton can do has it choses, but I don't think ATWT deserve your time and energy with the write ups along with the free pubicity you give them. They already got plenty of media exposure and cheers after airing the two kisses months ago, they're now no longer deserving And what a pity GLAAD has already given ATWT a nomination for this poorly written and almost non existance storyline...is it to late to pull it back?!

netegon...I've heard about this German SOAP you talk of, and it sounds really good. Pity I don't understand German or I would be following it. What a shame they decided to change the storyline and have Deniz suddenly fall for a women and dump his boyfriend. I don't blame the fans for being in a uproar, especially after everything they've seen so far points to him being 100% gay and in love with his boyfriend. Thank God they didn't pull that garbage with HollyOaks, but instead had Craig overtime fall in love with John Paul then naturally choose him over a woman. I think fans would have burnt the studio down if they had made Craig choose Sarah over John Paul, since everything we had seen over the past year pointed towards him truely in love with John Paul, and loving Sarah more as a friend and used as a cover for his denial.

Seeing what a bust this Noah and Luke storyline has become, it makes me appreciate even more Brothers & Sisters and it's quality gay storyline with Kevin, and what now hopefully will become the Kevin and Scotty story.

    I think they do care

Well, Maxine, I agree with much of what you said but I disagree when you say "These people DO NOT CARE!!"  I think the producers do care, but as Brent said in the first post here, they have been over-ruled by the higher-ups at CBS.  Someone "upstairs" has decreed Luke and Noah can't be seen kissing any more, but they producers are pushing it as far as they CAN go.  It's not that the producers don't care because you can see them doing all they can to work around the no-kissing decree - lots of near-kissing, longing looks, hugging, frank sex talk.  Everything they can think of.

Treated the same way as every straight couple???

If you’d like to see a gay couple in a daytime soap opera treated the same way as a straight one you should watch the story of Roman and Deniz on youtube. Here’s a link to the first part of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pax-1hYD9SI

Unfortunately, the hottest part, act X (don’t miss the minutes 3:30-5:15: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ovtfb5WqnE ), doesn’t have english subtitles (yet?).

The storyline is part of the soap ‘Alles was zählt’ which airs on German tv every day at 7pm. Roman is a gay ice skater, and Deniz a questioning ice hockey player who falls in love with Roman. They are allowed to kiss and make out with each other, and nobody’s been complaining about it yet.

Their story will continue like a typical soap story. Deniz is also making out with a girl and lying to Roman and that girl until they’ll both find out. Roman is recovering from a gay bashing and allowed to skate again, but to keep Deniz he’ll tell him the lie that he’ll never be able to do competitions again.

How I'd wish to see scenes like these between Noah and Luke. :-(
