ATWT video clip update: Will You Marry Me For a Green Card?
If you're an immigrant, it's never a good thing when Homeland Security comes knocking at the door. And that's just what poor ol' plot contrivance Ameera faced today.
Turns out Ameera's name turned up on a terrorist list. I knew she never she should've logged on to Killthegreatsatan.com, but kids these days! Anywho, the Feds haul Ameera off and Nuke and Lily and Holden all pile into the Lovebug to go to her rescue. Even though it was all a mistake, she has to vamoose the U.S. ASAP. Unless...someone is willing to sponsor. The Snyders are willing, but the only one who can is a relative such as, oh, say, a spouse. But wherever will Ameera find a spouse on such notice? (Since she's straight, I think she head on over to eHarmony.com.)
Noah tells Luke he's going to marry Ameera to save her from going to Iraq (wait, hasn't he heard the "surge" is working brilliantly? Downtown Baghdad is practically like downtown Burbank now!) This causes Noah to chew his knuckle pensively as he ponders the Daytime Emmy Van is sure to win for this storyline. He suggests Noah is marrying Ameera to go back into the closet, but when Noah swears how much he loves Luke, all is forgiven and Luke agrees to go along with the plan. Will Noah fall for Ameera? Will he make a Baghdad Baby with her? Will Luke and Noah ever kiss again? Are any of you still watching? Only time will tell! Here is the whole clip for amusement/frustration.

This is beyond...
...unrealistic. It's downright ridiculous. I believe marrying someone to keep them in the country is a felony. It's a serious offence in Canada, anyway. And to make the leap to marry right after she has been investigated by the feds...beyond belief. Kind of irresponsible of the show to try to portray this. Maybe, at the last minute, it will be revealed that Noah and Ameera are half-brother and sister and then, she'll have her blood relative and Luke will have his hugging friend. They'll just torture us with this dumb s/l until that happens. But I forgot. They have no problem portraying all kinds of serious criminal offences on this show. That appeals to the "widest range of audience".
I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.
ATWT: Right Over the Edge
Yes, in fact it is illegal in the U.S. to marry someone for the sole purpose of helping them immigrate. Also, the Feds don't just throw in the towel as soon as you marry. A prospective immigrant sponsored by a spouse only gets a two year temporary green card. Only after two years can they reapply for a permanent one.
Now, and here's where the writers are doubtless going here, it is not enough to just say that you're married and be done with it. Assuming that the Feds feel inclined to pursue the matter, they will require proof that the erstwhile married couple are in fact an actual married couple. This means being able to provide proof of cohabitation, as well as evidence of a marital relationship such as joint bank accounts, tax returns filed as a married couple, etc. A baby is not strictly necessary but it helps.
Since all of this will need to be in place at the end of the two years when the immigrant files for their permanent green card it is not a short-term commitment. Obviously, if the marriage is discovered to be a sham then criminal penalties can apply to both parties, including a possible prison sentence (which would be one way to reunite Noah and Col Pervy). Given that this is illegal, it would seem odd if the Feds weren't suspicious over Noah's sudden marital intentions towards this girl he's only just met.
Of course Noah has more of a history having sex with women (or at least Maddie) than with Luke, so it would not be far-fetched for Ameera to catch him in a weak moment (or get him drunk or drugged), mount him like a horse and get a baby off of him. It would be a very effective way of breaking him and Luke up since Noah's so dutiful and self-sacrificing that he'd probably feel obliged to stay with her.
Frankly this whole storyline is making me nauseous.
ARGH...

Don't forget the potential aiding and abetting as well as conspiracy charges the Snyders could face by supporting this fraudulent Nomeera union. Holden and Lily are quite the model parents, aren't they? Of course two eighteen year olds should call the shots on how to handle these complex immigration issues.
I too am nauseous...

Wait a minute
Wait a minute...
If you caught an illegal alien who had over stayed their visa, would you let them go for a few days to get their affairs in order ? ? ? I believe in Canada that once the appeal process is over and you are in custody you're on the next plane out.
Can't see TPTB being stupid enough to keep this sham marriage story line going for two years. Ameera has already been on for two weeks and look at the number of fans she is driving away.
QUAKER OATS LADY DESERVES WHATEVER SHE GETS!
Thats It...Im over ATWT
I have had it with As The World Turns! I am fed up with this kind of disrespect to us. I could over look nuke not kissing as much as the other characters do, but to to put noah back in the closet is just wrong. If he loves luke as he claimed, the attack should have made him stronger and more determined to fight homophobia! It is a slap in the face to us who have been invested in NUKE and the show in general. It is so disappointing to see that we are not allowed to have happy loving relationships in the Daytime soap world.
Well I am sorry to say that Im no longer gonna watch or even stay updated with the show. I have been a fan of ATWT for 15 yrs and I think I will go back to watching One Life To Live!

Good question. I'm beginning to wonder if P&G want me or my kind watching their show. Remember, we're the types who organized a Media Blitz to call them on their duplicity. P&G cant' like that.
When they say that they are trying to appeal to a diverse audience, what they mean is they don't want to offend the fundies. When they say they are taking artistic license what they mean is that they have a right to portray shameful homos any way they want and how gay of me to call them on it.
What the hell do they need a conscience for? They are Proctor and Gamble after all. They will get their GLAAD award for Nuke. They will get their Emmy for Nuke. With kudos like that, how can I call them out on what they're doing?
Nope, I'm not watching
