Yes, we're serious.
- A Los Angeles school principal is in hot water for allowing a GQ photo shoot which had Sacha Baron Cohen as Bruno playing a bit of homo-suggestive touch football with the school's varsity team. Never mind that the students had permission slips. [Hat tip Gawker]
- Movieline.com takes a wry look at Lifetime's extensive publicity campaign for their new prize jewel (after stealing it away from Bravo), Project Runway. Judging by the latest ad, which other than Tim Gunn, seems noticeably devoid of gay men, you'd think that only heteros watch Runway. As if!
- Defense Secretary Robert Gates wants to make Don't Ask Don't Tell "more humane"
until Congress eventually repeals it. For example, Gates said the military might be more selective and not have to expel a gay servicemember whose sexual
orientation was revealed by a third party out of vindictiveness or
suspect motives. That would include, Gates said, someone who was
"jilted" by the gay service member. Oh dear. One can only imagine the military tribunal Gates plans to set up to determine precisely which servicemembers were jilters — and which were jiltees. Frankly, the concept is ludicrous. Just suspend DADT already!
"So soldier, you say you meant to call, but lost his phone number?"

- Well, I would not have thought it possible, but somehow Hardee's has managed to upstage both Quizno's and Burger King in the sexually suggestive advertising department. Check out the new "Hardee's Holes" ad and prepare to be disturbed...
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
This guy!

OMG!
So this is what advertisers have come to
That Hardee's commercial was so T-A-C-K-Y!!! Some 14 year old boy was in the marketing department, and was like, getting people to say "A-hole" would be funny, let's spend millions of dollars on that, and unfortunately the adults in the room must have been sniffing glue, b/c they agreed to it!!!
Kitty
T-A-C-K-Y
Hey...
In defense of Gates
He MUST follow the law of DADT. He has no choice. However it is supposed to be Don't Ask Don't Tell. Meaning they cannot ask, you don't have to tell. No third party should out someone for vengeance. It's a real fine line but it's a way to help stop some of the discharges. When I was in the AF, I knew of a few fellow gay servicemen who were discharged because an ex decided to out them.
*snorts*
I thought the Hardee's ad was pretty funny. True, I often have the sense of humor of a 10 year old, but still! I don't think it's too low-brow for the majority of Americans. Maybe that says something bad about American society, but really, I think it's healthy to have a childish laugh every once in a while. And, hey, sandwich phallic imagery has been done to death; at least this is more original.
Honestly, if I had a Hardee's in my city, I'd drive there right now, buy a big order of holes and eat them out... er, eat them up.
Love Tim Gunn; Love Heidi Klum. . .
. . .but Project Runway is dead as far as I'm concerned!
Rest in Peace, Project Runway!
I don't find the concept
I don't find the concept ludicrous at all. That it would be necessary is ludicrous, but the concept of limiting the cases in which DADT can be used is not ludicrous. His heart is in the right place and he's just seeking to limit the power of DADT and I cannot see how the way the suggestions Gates brought forth could be used to the detriment of LGBT servicemembers at all.
Let's remember that Gates has no power over whether or not or when DADT is repealed, so he's making suggestions to limits its power until such time comes to pass.
Maybe the soon to be
Maybe the soon to be ex-principal has a future career in food marketing ?
Unreal.
Kudos and DADT
Dennis - Great choice for the Briefs man this morning.
As for DADT, I am going to take the Gates comments as a sign our anger is shifting things forward. We must keep up the anger and force change. We must continue to ask the President why he isn't do more symbolically to champion our cause and our families.
