AfterElton Briefs: gay reality talent trending up, straight guys play for our team, and more!

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • According to a report today by MediaWeek, the number of gays appearing on non-scripted TV is on the rise. Methinks you can chalk that up primarily to Bravo.  This is in stark contrast to the declining number of gay characters on scripted television. The Media Week vid below, which is targeted primarily to advertisers is worth watching because it includes a number of gay-friendly reality show highlight scenes:
    • Good news! According to the exercise video below you can laugh yourself to better health! Either that, or accidentally crap your pants.
    • A San Francisco gay softball team was disqualified after winning a championship game because they had too many straight members. Seriously! A team called D2 had four members that weren't "predominantly gay" while the league rules only allow two non-gay members. Hey, if the straight guys want to play on our team I say let them. More details here.
    • Barack Obama says he won't repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell" via executive order but instead will work to build a consensus with military leaders on repealing the ban on gays in the military. He said this in an interview with the Philadelphia Gay News, published today. (John McCain declined to be interviewed).  I sort of appreciate Obama's candor on this subject, and see the logic of his consensus-building approach.  (I remember 1992 and what a noble disaster Bill Clinton's attempt to allow gays in the military by executive order was.) You can read the full Obama interview here.
    • Our buddy Greg Hernandez over at Out in Hollywood caught an early screening of the Noah's Arc movie due out this fall. Bottom line: he really liked it. You can check out the review here.
