Avatar of the Week: Boonciaver

I know we usually get these avatar posts out on Wednesday, but we got sidetracked this week tallying the votes and putting together the Top 25 Gay TV characters piece. It may be two days late, but we're still proud to present this week's installment. Call it Avatar of the Week: the "Real People" edition.

That's right, this week we thought we'd take a break from the really fancy animated gifs and/or the humorous slogans and focus instead on humanity over artistry. To that end we present three avatars depicting some fine faces of very real AfterElton.com members.

First up is Psionycx, who describes himself as "a high-tech marketing shark spending my non-business hours enjoying quiet country living in a more-than-a-little-gay bedroom community."

First off, I loved Psi's pic because he reminds me a bit of Seth Rogen (I'm a fan.) Second, I love that Psi refers to himself as a high-tech marketing "shark." Oh you Type-A personalities — always likening yourselves to fearsome animals.

Psi, I'm curious about your "more-than-a-little-gay bedroom community." Write back and tell us more as it sounds nice.

Second up is Jeremymlad

Jeremy hails from Orem, Utah. He comes from a Mormon family, and I absolutely loved what he had to say in his profile because it means us folks on the editorial staff must be doing something right....

I was drawn to this site by the article on Brooke McEldowny and his gay characters in his comic strip, and stayed and stayed and stayed. Now I read this site every day for my news.

Jeremy, we're really glad you're here. Believe me, we appreciate you in a way that FOX News never could! Also, thank you so much for your comment contributions. (And hey, happy you liked the Vera Wang joke!)

This week's winner is Boonciaver

Boon recently put up a forum topic about Thanksgiving and his less than supportive family. It was a very personal and soul-baring post, and I was really struck by how many great responses he received — people reaching out to him and trying to offer some emotional support and constructive advice. It reminded me that AfterElton.com isn't simply a gay entertainment news site, it's actually a community made up of truly fine people. I mean, consider the thoughtful, intelligent and empathetic responses Boonciaver's post received, and think about the kind of responses it might have elicited on so many other sites — Yes, even many gay ones.

Makes me very proud to be a part of AfterElton.com.

So congrats to Psionycx, Jeremymlad, and a special tip of the hat to our Avatar of the Week: Boonciaver!
