Avatar of the Week: Jacob

Welcome to another edition of Avatar of the Week. No running theme this time around unless you count the overly plump lips featured in both the runner up pics.

First we have Luis, who is a nursing student in the Philippines and is either giving his best guppy imitation or doing a spot on Lisa Rinna. Luis’ profile has a great quote about what it is like being gay in his home country:

“You don't come out in the Philippines. People just gossip behind your back and the next thing you know you have a fictional gay life that's far raunchier than your current one.”

Luis also mentions he’s planning his “Great Boyfriend Hunt” but the venture is on hold as he’s too busy with nursing school and hospital duty at the moment. Good luck Luis. Here’s hoping that very soon you find the time to bag that great boyfriend.

Next up we have 70x7book, which is the “dotcom de plume” of Salvatore Sapienza. Salvatore’s personal pic with “world’s first supermodel” Janice Dickinson caught my eye. I’m so jealous. Love her. Used to see her out and around in LA all the time (scaring the tourists, mostly.) She’s just as wildly inappropriate in person as she is on TV. (Is it just me or has ANTM yet to recover from her departure?)

Salvatore is an author, and his debut novel is called Seventy Times Seven (hence the user name). The book has received glowing reviews. (Our own Michael and Brent of "Two Gay Guys" gave Seventy Times Seven two "Mars signs" up.) From LA's IN Magazine...

Just like his protagonist, Vito Fortunato, Sapienza prepared to be a brother in the Catholic Church and taught at an all-boys Catholic high school in Queens. Also like Vito, Sapienza has presumably wrestled with the challenge of recognizing his spirituality and sexuality as equal gifts, a challenge he charts with candor, humor and more than a few Madonna lyrics in his breezy and touching novel.

You can find out more about Salvatore and his novel here.

Finally, we have this week’s winner: Jacob. Jacob’s avatar caught my eye last week I’d seen it around on the site but never stopped to read the fine print. Oh Jacob, may you never wear pants again. Very funny.

Jacob describes himself as a “a white boy who has his father’s looks and practices his mother’s Jewish heritage. I’m in it for the culture though, not the God.”

That Yahweh can be such a downer.

Jacob hails from Southern California and is a college English major. He wants to write books, and I think he should chat up 70x7book for advice on breaking in to the literary world.

Well, that’s it for this edition of Avatar of the Week. Keep those clever pics and thoughtful profiles coming.
