Battle of the Network Gays: April 23, 2010

This week's Battle of the Network Gays features two popular TV couples showing affection, a powerful coming out moment, and a gay comic book character. More on this week's nominees and a chance to vote after the break!

Brothers & Sisters' Kevin & Scotty

Why? Picture this: an episode of Brothers & Sisters that started with a close-up of a male nipple (Scotty's), and then proceeds to a scene depicting real affection and saucy banter between two very attractive men. Where else on broadcast network TV are you going to find that? Nowhere. Oh yeah, they found out they were preggers too. Congratulations boys! The show itself might often disappoint (I mean "Narrow Lake?" Come on!), but Scotty & Kevin rarely do.

Trauma's Tyler Briggs

Why? We should be paying more attention to this character and this show. Talented Kevin Rankin brings real heart to his role as gay EMT Tyler, and this week he got to demonstrate his acting chops with a cheer-worthy coming out to his father scene. Since you probably missed it, here's that scene:

As the World Turns' Luke & Reid

Why? After weeks of anticipation these two finally kiss and... ride a mechanical bull? Okay, for CBS daytime this is probably meant as a metaphorical replacement for actual sexual intimacy. Still it was sorta hot, and we're really liking Luke & Reid together. As the World Turns ends in September, but we're actually hopeful now they plan to send Luke Snyder out on a high note.

Archie Comics' Kevin Keller

Why? Kevin, judging from all the press you got yesterday, seems like the whole world knows your name. Which is pretty impressive for a comic book character who won't even make his appearance until this September (in Veronica #202). Still, as Archie Comics' first openly gay character ever you're quite the landmark, and we're thrilled to meet you!
