Battle of the Network Gays: October 22, 2009

Every week we pick the gays who we think have made the biggest splash in television (or pop culture in general) and leave it to you, the keepers of the flame, to decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week. We'll announce the winner on Friday, and that champ will reign until a new set of challengers are introduced the following week to try to steal his title.

Last week, Oliver Fish took the crown for his handy way with a taser gun. This week we've got four new contenders vying for the throne: Three of them are coming out stories, the fourth involves a purloined kiss.

Check them out after the break, and vote for your favorite!

This week's contenders:

  • Dónal Óg Cusack, The star Irish hurler (I assume that's some sort of sport, and not a reference to projectile vomiting) came out in an interview in the Irish Mail in advance of his forthcoming memoir. Apparently Cusack has the full support of his teammates. It's enough to make you want to hurl. By that I mean play the sport, not... you know... the other thing.

  • Dr. George Huang (B.D. Wong) for formally coming out on Law & Order SVU and making an impassioned distinction between homosexuality and pedophilia. It'll probably be another eight years before the show specifically references Huang's orientation, but good to get it out there at least this once.

  • Tony nominated Broadway star Jonathan Groff for coming out to Broadway.com
