Battle of the Network Gays: December 18, 2009

Every week we pick the gays who we think have made the biggest splash in television (or pop culture in general) and leave it to you, the keepers of the flame, to decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week.

Last week's results had the juggernaut that is "Kish" mowing down the competition — including Adam Lambert. (That poor guy always seems to come in second.)

This week we got a little help in the nominating department from a few readers who wish to remain nameless. Fresh eyes brought us some interesting candidates for gay of the week, three of whom have never been nominated before!

This week's contenders:

  • Neil Patrick Harris  NPH has had a great week overall. First his performance this week on How I Met Your Mother (wiith fellow out guest star Harvey Fierstein doing voice work), then via Twitter comes news he'll be directing an upcoming episode of his sitcom. Finally, photos surfaced of NPH channeling Gene Kelly for a musical number in the 100th episode of HIMYM. With that much going on we would be insane to not nominate him.

  • Matt from The Office. This week Oscar got a potential love interest, and a very cute one at that. We don't yet know much about red-headed Matt (played by Sam Daly – son of Tim Daly) except that everyone at Dunder Mifflin refers to him as "gay warehouse guy" and Oscar alternates between following him around like a puppy dog and completely ignoring him. With mixed signals like that will Pam's efforts at matchmaking be for naught? Here's hoping we see more of Matt.

  • Rictor and Shatterstar from X-Factor. It’s not very often that we get the chance to nominate comic book characters, but ones as progressive as these two deserve some attention.

  • Georgette Andrews from The Closer  Georgette (played by Beau Bridges) is a transgender lesbian who comes in to assist the LAPD Major Crimes Division in a murder retrial. Now Georgette might make for a controversial nominee here as... ahem... not everyone was keen on this episode of The Closer. Still, judging from reader comments the character has some champions out there.

Vote for your favorite by 10 PM EDT Sunday. And be sure to check back next Tuesday on the blog to see which network gay our readers have carried to glory!
