Brian & Steve Tie The Knot on "The Sarah Silverman Program"

Last night The Sarah Silverman Program had some fun with the issue of gay marriage. Sarah gets into local politics when she campaigns for a fake write-in candidate she calls "May Kadoody". (Think about it). Complications ensue when the write-in campaign is successful and a real "May Kadoody" shows up to take office. Among other things, this real Kadoody is vehemently anti-gay.

Against this backdrop, Sarah's friend Brian (Brian Posehn) decides to make an honest man out of his boyfriend Steve (Steve Agee). What first looks like a bashing (a brick through a window) turns out to be a marriage proposal:

Once they get rid of Kadoody, the newly installed pro-gay mayor (guest star Bradley Whitford) officiates over Brian & Steve's marriage on the steps of city hall.

There's some funny stuff in these clips, I just wish that Whitford's character hadn't intervened when Brian and Steve were leaning in to kiss. "Nobody wants to see that!" He says.

I think the show was trying to make a joke about how these two characters are schlubby and physically unattractive, thus no one gay or straight wants to see them macking on one another. But we were only talking about a kiss here, not heavy petting. And schlubby folks have just as much right to physical affection as anyone else. I was kinda sad that they didn't get that kiss.

Oh well. Other than that, an entertaining episode.
