Gay in the UK video blog (Ep. 22): The Pope and Oscar Wilde
In this edition of Gay in the UK, hosts Tim and Ryan are in their brand new studio headquarters, and covering the week's European news, inlcuding legal prospects for a lesbian prisoner who is fighting deportation because she fears persecution back in her native Jamaica, and the surprising revelation that Pope Benedict is a big fan of Oscar Wilde! The boys also try to parse the upswing in homophobic hate crimes in London and conclude the data might be less depressing than it sounds. Turning to culture, Tim gives his take on Bruno as well as Torchwood: Children of Earth, and finally, the guys hand out their patented Wino Awards to gayfaced Daniel Radcliffe and bisexual boybander Duncan James. Check it out after the break!

What happened to White?
Was no one deserving of white or is it just a glitch. You get cut off after announcing Duncan James for Rose. Just want to say I love your blogs and cannot wait for the new one every week. Cheers!
Another great post as
Another great post as usual, though I believe that things cut off right before the white wine was awarded. Hope that the problem gets resolved quickly.
I can't say that I really agree with your review of Children of Earth though. I was a fan of Torchwood before this miniseries and if this was meant as a definite end to the series than I find, then I'm fine with it. But if this was all meant as a rebooting of the series, then I don't think Russell T. Davies and his writing staff left much for the original fans of the series. By the end of Day Five it seemed like almost all of the elements that made Torchwood unique and interesting were being pushed to the side or destroyed outright. Right now I'd say that I'm very hesitant about giving another series a go, since RTD has stated that he wants to show the dangers of Torchwood by killing most of the beloved characters off, I just don't see a reason to become invested. Being interested in the character interactions is what made me like Torchwood and gave me the strength to ignore the bus-sized plotholes, but now all of the ones I liked are six feet under. In truth, I've never seen Russell T. Davies as a particularly strong story teller and Children of Earth did absolutely nothing to weaken my dislike of his style.
Whoops - Sorry about the end!
Oh no I am so sorry - I have no idea what happened. This appears to be my fault because Dennis didn't get the end when I sent it to him this week. I will be reediting and it will be up online...
...however, rather than spoil the end, we'll leave it for you to see. So look out early next week.
Thanks for your support. If you have any events we should cover do let us know.

Quango
Quango is an acronym for 'quasi autonomous non-governmental organisation'. I think the word was invented in the late Sixties, because throughout the Seventies, you couldn't get to the end of any newspaper article without falling over the word.
Sadly, I think you should be covering Big Brother. Apart from it having more gay/bi/heteroflexible characters in it than ever before, it recently featured the first gay kiss/gay fumbling under the covers.
It's a very small landmark in British reality TV, but a landmark none the less. And even though its ratings aren't great, I seriously believe that if a real same-sex romance gets under way in the show, it'll pull the ratings way up.
