German National Football Team "A Bunch of Gays?"

German National Football Team takes third place at World Cup

A German sports agent named Michael Becker is making some interesting claims about the current lineup Germany's national football team.

Der Spiegel quotes him as claiming there's a "bunch of gays" in the new lineup and under the leadership of new head coach Joachim Löw there's some sort of gay conspiracy afoot.

Becker comes off as quite the patriarchal blowhard in this piece. He has an apparent axe to grind since his big client is the German team's injured captain Michael "the bulge" Ballack

Michael Ballack

Ballack wasn't able to play at the World Cup, but that "bunch of gays" seemed to do quite well without him – securing a third-place finish. And that's not all, young player Thomas Muller got the World Cup's coveted Golden Boot award for most goals by an individual player. (For more on the World Cup generally, check out our Non-Sporting Gay Guy's Guide to the World Cup.)

The Der Spiegel piece is an interesting read because it doesn't name names or bother to speculate on the orientations of German footballers. (Though it seems to take it as a given that there are at least a couple gays on the team.)

Instead, the article speculates on why blowhard Becker would make a fool of himself by making all his wild gay charges.

Seems to boil down to his most important client wanting to remain top dog, insecure about his position as captain, and unhappy with the direction of his team under new coach Joachim Low.

Coach Joachim Löw congratulates a player after their 3rd place World Cup finish.

Because of Ballack's sidelining injury, Phillip Lahm stepped in as team captain during the World Cup. And, unusually, Lahm recently made a public request to remain as captain even though Ballack has recovered.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens next, but it doesn't sound like Ballack has the support of his teammates – gay or straight.
