Your Hero and Asshat of the Week (December 14, 2009)

We normally just announce an Asshat of the Week winner, but in Friday's Best Gay Week Ever column we introduced a companion poll, Hero of the Week, to recognize the good guys too. Just a way to balance out the karma around here. As you can probably tell from the image above Rachel Maddow took one of the crowns and Uganda the other.

You can probably guess who was the hero and who was the asshat, but to find out who they were up against and what their margin of victory was, check out the results after the break!

Why the Maddow win? It probably had something to do with this...

Why the Uganda win? If you don't know you've been living under a rock.

Both our Hero and Asshat will reign supreme until this Friday, when a new crop of candidates are announced in the Best Gay Week Ever column.

    Just wanted to say I love the new Hero (of the week) idea.  I think it is important to give attention and gratitude to those individuals and organizations that advance or support equal rights for LGBT folks.  Very nice job.

    Now for next weeks Hero - I'd like to nominate ABC for simply having shows like Modern Family and One Life to Live.

    Thanks for the new Hero of the Week!  I like to bitch and moan as much as the next guy, but we need to be speaking up and supporting those who are out on the frontline for us in a big and positive way.  And I second the motion of b32guy to include ABC in next week's poll.   We love Modern Family at our house and appreciate the gay couple in all their wacky glory as well as the way the show blends quirky humor with poignant emotions.  While not a fan of daytime drama, I appreciate what ABC is doing with OLTL as well.  Let's all try to suggest worthy nominees for this new category.  Thanks.
