Homophonic video blog (Ep. 6): Ron Morris
Join Alex and special guest Ron Morris with a look back at Ron's meteoric rise in music — an adventure that started on the road through the American West and soared with a music-video breakthrough thanks to a little megahit called "Boyfriend."
Ron gets a mite introspective while hanging with Alex and Lee, going all the way back to his musically influential grandmother and leaping forward to his much anticipated release, "Truth Stained Lies," premiering June 24th. Submitted by on Wed, 2008-06-18 15:04. |

Hah!
Well, yeah, there's that, too!

I'd Call Alex an Otter
But don't tell him I said that.

In the words of Pinnochio...
But I'm a *real* boy!

Real boy?
Well, yes, in the greater bear pantheon ...
Cheers on another great one, guys!
That was a great interview, Alex ("Bearded Boys Music Extravaganza", HA!)- I LOVE Ron Morris' music, the "Boyfriend" video is ADORABLE (obviously, my boyfriend and I get all mushy whenever we hear the song), and it's great to know another album's on the way. And he comes off as a really nice guy on the interview, so kudos to him!
I'd like to comment on a specific point - Ron's totally right in that he shouldn't try to be "angsty", or angry (as if only an anguished musician could be taken seriously) if his thing is to be upbeat. And I think he pulls the upbeat thing off wonderfully.
And, man, you guys should have mentioned his myspace page, it's got a really nice selection of songs to hear!;)
Loved the performance at the end of the episode - The song is great, there's another video of him playing it at Bearpalooza on YouTube, check it out!
Finally, on a somewhat unrelated note, can we get some Gay Pimp love here soon?;)
Best,
J.
P.S.: Alex, I TOTALLY agree with you on "A Case of You".
P.S.2:Won't Lee ever decide to step in front of the camera for Homophonic? Or better, bring in Marc so you can do an "Angry Puppy"/"Homophonic" crossover!

With Your Face Sketched on It Twice
Thanks, James!
Joni: I'm sure there are people who don't like her, but I've never met any who'd admit it.
Ron Morris: We just got back from Ron's release party/concert at the Metropolitan Room earlier tonight. If any of you get the chance, you should definitely see him live.
Me: I'm camera shy, so you won't see me on camera here! No one watches Angry Puppy but us geeks so that's OK. :)
Marc: When Alex and I do our next music video, we'll get Marc to play the tambourine. I think his musical background has prepared him for that much. :D

C'mon...
...Like we're not ALL geeks here, Lee! :)
I'm sure Ron must kick serious ass on the stage, from what little I've seen on YouTube! And now you MUST make a video with Marc going crazy on the tambourine, man...
Best,
J.

Ron Morris coming to live with me!
May I also say that I love love LOVE CD Baby -- their confirmation email was hysterically funny. And the CDs will be arriving at my office on Monday. Of course, I'm CIG (Calling In Gay) on Monday, following Gay Pride Weekend, so I won't be able to listen to them until Tuesday -- damn!
Thanks, Alex, for introducing me to my next new favorite singer/songwriter, and thanks, Ron, for your sensitive, beautiful, heartfelt and heartwarming work.
Ron Morris Triple Header
As CD Baby promised, my 3 Ron Morris CDs arrived at my office on Gay Monday, July 1. I arrived at my office on Tuesday morning and picked them up from the mailroom, and I have been listening to them over the last day or so. Wow. I don't know what I like best -- the new one's soothing sounds, the lyrics of all the originals (which will bear repeated playings -- man, what a poet this guy is), the different arrangements of "Boyfriend" -- thanks again, Alex, for introducing me to this extraordinary artist; and thanks, Ron, for sharing your gifts with all of us. And thanks, Ken Jr., for sharing him with us and for your remarkable artwork.
And to those of you who are still Ronless -- you are missing out.
