Gay icon Dolly Parton was on board this week as guest mentor, and the contestants had to choose from her extensive songbook. Jim Verraros & Penny Frulla dish the dirt on the best (and worst) performances, open up the reader mail bag, and put out an open call for martini recipes.

You guys make me sad that I don't watch the show
I thought Dolly Parton week was the best overall week so far
Far from being boring, I thought this was the best week for the finalists overall.
The two Davids and Michael were at the head of the class. while Carly, Syesha and Jason all gave very good performances. The other three, who ended up as the bottom trio, didn't sing poorly, but compared with the first six, they weren't as memorable.
Regarding your comments about David Archuleta, there is nothing wrong with him singing ballads so much better than up-tempo songs. But he CAN sing faster songs with conviction. You forgot about top 24 week (split between top 12 guys and top 12 girls) when he sang "Shop Around". And despite the judges not being familiar with Aussie John Farnham, I thought David performed "You're The Voice" very well.
