James Denton resists playing gay, though not hosting Miss America

Its amazing what a little "gay flavoring" will do for a TV series' exposure. (At least around here!) Apparently the comedy Head Case has been airing on Starz for 3 whole seasons and I've never even heard of the darn thing.

That's a little surprising, because based upon this weekend's episode it seems exactly the sort of thing I'd watch.

HeadCase is an improvisational comedy which follows Hollywood therapist Dr. Jane Goode (Alexandra Wentworth). You sit it on her counseling sessions with various celebrities willing to poke fun at their public image. 

Friday's episode featured amusing appearances by Desperate Housewives' show runner Marc Cherry, and actors Kevin Rahm & James Denton.  The setup: Cherry wants the character Mike Delfino to go gay, only he is getting a lot of resistance from Denton, the actor who plays him. Rahm is there to help convince Denton that going gay is a logical step for his character. 

There are actually two clips. In the first, Denton expresses his concerns about what playing gay will do for his future acting character: "It's not a personal issue for me, but once I go in that [gay] direction, people blur the lines.

Responds Cherry: "James, I want to point out at this point that you hosted the Miss America pageant. I think that any hope for a glorious future career is over."

Too true, that.

In the second clip, Kevin and Mark take up some Ken dolls to demonstrate the scene they have in mind. This is pretty funny stuff, and hats off to Cherry, Rahm, and Denton for participating.

Now if only Mike Delfino actually would go gay. That could be interesting. Check out the clips after the break!
