Metcalfe seeks help (and attention)

[img_assist|nid=2525|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=200|height=269]Well, one of the big stories from late last week: Jesse Metcalfe (that hot gardener from Desperate Housewives) has checked himself into rehab. Criminy, at this point who hasn’t checked themselves into rehab?

The statement from his spokesperson:

“Jesse entered a rehab facility to deal with alcohol issues. He realized he had a problem and was anxious to deal with it immediately. The actor, best known as the hunky gardener on the ABC show 'Desperate Housewives' and the star of the film 'John Tucker Must Die,' hopes that the media will allow him the privacy to deal properly with his treatment."

Uhm, if Jesse Metcalfe really wants privacy, why is his publicist releasing any statement at all? And plugging her client’s two best known roles to boot?

Not to kick a guy while he’s supposedly down, but I think Metcalfe could have quietly retreated to a rehab clinic for a few weeks without anyone from the press (or public) even noticing.

And while we’re on the subject, what is with the recent release of “candid” shots of Metcalfe and girlfriend, british pop starlet Nadine Coyle cavorting on a Hawaiian beach? Seems like a desperate bid for attention. The guy looks flawless though. (If he really were bingeing on alcohol these days wouldn’t he be puffier?)

dlisted.com has more of the Metcalfe/Coyle pictures. Funny, but most commenters on that site seem preoccupied with Jesse’s ample pectorals. One post in particular made me laugh out loud:
