Today on As the World Turns, the Snyder men host a bachelor party for Uncle Jack. It's not much fun for Luke unfortunately because 1) he's sober, 2) Noah shows up and rejects him yet again, and 3) he has to watch Brian Wheatley overcompensate his heterosexuality by drinking too much and pawing the female stripper.
Too bad Luke didn't score an invite to the hen party - that soiree at least had a male stripper.
Later, Luke gets stuck driving a drunk Wheatley home. Once back at the Lily pad, Wheatley puts the moves on him. How will Luke react?
Find out in the Nuke video clips after the break!
If you missed it, be sure and check out Brian's liveblog for this episode. As always, you can find previous, liveblogs, video clips and other goodies over on the ATWT Resource Page.
Over on the live blogging site someone said "this is all they could get?" with regards to the strippers... I have to say I agree! Wow they had a nice body but both were lame in the erotic dancer category. snore! Nice abs does not a stripper make.
And would they stop letting Brian off the hook already with Luke's threats! Just tell Grandma!
I think the end of the clip was best. Luke telling Brian that "if you ever come on to me again I will tell my grandmother everything." I think that luke needs to start standing up for himself now that him and Noah are no longer together. I hope them two can work out their differences and get back together soon. I love seeing them with one another. The whole Marriage thing with Noah turned me off a bit but since the end of that I have been drawn for towards the show hoping that they would consummate their relationship. I love watching this show. i really look forward to the NUKE story line.
Sorry, guys, but I had to laugh out loud - so funny!!! The S/L and dialog are so bad that it becomes hilariously funny. The writers have opted for a NUKE S/L that is so ridiculous as to be totally incredulous. A few days ago I suggested a "great" S/L when Brian got Luke to rest in his suite...I blogged that Brian should return to Luke coming out of shower in a towel and Lucinda should barge in as Brian made a pass at Luke while ripping towel off Luke. Oh well, Lily & Holden didn't quite barge in, but it was still funny...maybe not fall off the sofa laughing funny, but funny and ridiculous all at the same time.
Actually, to really make things great, Luke should have kissed Brian to make Noah, the ever afraid of gay sex, quasi-hetero, jealous! Then there would have been a story. And of course the totally absurd remark of Luke for Noah to give him another chance is the most hilariously funny of all since there never, and I mean NEVER was a "First" chance. They've NEVER been together...not in 18 months! They are NOT a couple and NEVER have been. Noah had more physical contact w/Maddy in one brief moment than he has had w/Luke in 18 months - need one say any more? I think NOT!
If alla viewer of the Nuke storylinecares about, at this point, is whether or not
Nuke has sex, then they are definitely wasting their time with this storyline
and they are not going to have any fun and their head might explode if they continue to watch Nuke with the idea that they will only truly exist as a couple once they have sex.
If that's how someone sees things, why watch? why talk about it? why berate others? What is the point or repeating over and over, "Nuke isn't a couple", "Nuke needs to have sex", as if he rest of the folks don't know what's been going on , on screen?
It would be just as maddening to constantly wondering why Ethan is older than 2 when he was only born 2 years ago on the show.
I get it, it's maddening and frustrating and you hate it and we're all fools for watching. And?
Watch Ollian/Chrolli (like so many
of us do and enjoy thorough). Watch any number of other lovely gay character inclusive soap opera storylines (there
are tons over on “The Gays of Daytime” blog and message board to choose from) and discussed on "Gays of Our Lives" right here each
week on A.E.
It's not like there aren't other storylines to chose from and be less frustrated by.
Enjoy the freedom of expression of gay sexuality and romance that not being
a US
soap produced by P&G/CBS or policed by the AFA has to offer.
If a viewer isn't willing to "roll with it" there is just no point
in watching ANY fictional televisionThis seems particularly true regarding soap operas (which operate much
more like SciFi than dramas from what I can tell).
I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Passionately. I could not love
it even a little tiny bit if I was unwilling to accept the "rules"
and "truths" of Jossland (which rarely have anything to do with
reality and often contradict themselves).
If I'm going to be so completely put
out by the fact there is no
reasonable explanation for how folks repair the repeated destruction of
property, or that everyone who isn't
part of the demon/vampire fighting seems to magically forget everything they've
seen, heard, then there is not point in watching Buffy.
I won't even go into the whole Buffy/Angel no sex thing.
You don't have to just accept that there are vampires and slayers (that's a
given) you have to accept the fact that a "normal" teenaged boy (with
no super powers) can be repeatedly thrown across a room against a wall and
simply be knocked unconscious without any other visible or internal damage to
his body. They don’t even bother
to explain why (even Nuke has “reasons” for not having sex) you just accept
it.Xander can’t be harmed, until he can
be harmed. Rhyme, reason be danmed.[As
an aside, you also have to accept that this is American commercial television
and there will be no nudity or cussing despite all the sex and violence]
As the viewer, I have to accept
the internal logic of Sunnydale, THEN I can argue about what Spike will or
won't do and whether or not Angel really loves Buffy, and whether or not
Xander should or shouldn't trust Anya's motives, etc.
I accept the internal (and well mocked) logic of ATWT (and Nuke not having
sex is only 1 of the ridiculous things about their story) then I can argue
about the reasons for any character doing or not doing something. The only US soaps I’ve ever watched are ATWT
(Nuke clips) and Nightshift (full eps) so I have no first hand experience with
how logical or authentic other soaps are.I’d assume, not so much.Even
still Iused to spend a lot of time
wondering why they couldn't have sex in the barn, in a car, under the kitchen
table, etc.
Then I learned to love the bomb. It's
fun to watch ATWT and talk about it and I care about Nuke as characters
(because Jake and Van made me). Done and done.
There is nothing fun about watching a soap opera unless you are willing to
"go with" the internal logic of the soap. Doesn't mean you
don't wish characters would do one thing over the other or that you don't start
to "care" about whether or not "Carly gets back with Jack"
or "Ethan gets rescued from the well" or Emma loses her farm.
I don't expect Lily to act like a real woman or business owner or
mother. I do expect Lily to act like what I've come to know of as
"Lily" and when she doesn’t I get to kvetch.
Yes, ATWT expects us to believe that
Luke and Noah have done exactly what they have for the reasons they have given
and ATWT expects us to accept that internal logic whether or not it makes sense
with regard to what "actual" or "real" young gay men would
do (horny, not horny, virgins, not virgins) If we accept the logic, then yes, we can care
about Noah's motivations or Luke's health. We can argue about it and
debate courses of actions, etc. If we don’t, we can’t.
Nuke only exists in the world of ATWT and in that world, they don't (or at
least haven't) had sex. It is as ridiculous as almost EVERY OTHER THING
folks have mentioned about time travel and folks who never seem to actually
work and any number of other insane, illogical storylines and plot devices that
defy biology, laws of physics and human anatomy that viewers HAVE to believe in
order to watch/enjoy any soap.
I get it, THE SEX is the reason
why we as gay people (and particularly gay men) are discriminated against.Depicting a gay male couple that consciously doesn't
have sex for ridiculous reasons so that some potential number of homophobic
viewers isn’t offended or CBS isn’t boycotted is wrong. And so?
If the writers of ATWT can't authentically or honestly or
respectfully or believably depict any other
kind of human relationship (sexual or otherwise) why would we expect them to be
able to do so with NUKE?No one with any
marbles watches a soap opera to teach them about gay men (or college politics
or breast cancer or raising horses, etc).
Even if you have never met or known or seen a gay man in your life, the one
think you know is that they have THE SEX
with each other (you either think it's a sin or AWESOME or you don't care)
If you're watching ATWT, you know why Luke and Noah haven't (both
within and outside of the internal logic of ATWT).
Homophobic straight people know why (and are happy). Gay loving straight
people know why (and are sad). Gay men and lesbians know why (and are
enraged).
P&G, CBS, AFA, whatever! we all know why and we believe it is right or
wrong based upon who we are and what we believe about gay folks and ourselves
and what we expect for television.
I think the Consummation Clock is AWESOME and makes a great in-your-face
point about how unsatisfying and infuriating and ridiculous it is that
this couple has not had sex in a world where EVERYONE has sex with everyone
else all the time and we KNOW it’s only because they are gay.Point made.
I think any viewer could just decide to say WHO CARES about all the other
characters and storylines, "Luke and Noah are being treated differently
than straight people" (which they are) and "NUKE are not reflective
of "normal" teenage sexuality (gay or straight)" and therefore,
"I'm Not Watching This Crap!"
You only have two choices, Go, Fly, Be Free of the insanity that is Nuke or embrace the crazy that is ATWT and roll within the parameters as presented.
"Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." (Dorothy Parker)
Actually, people watch an episode of Nuke for many different reasons. I won't say for them if those reasons are valid or not or if those reasons will make their head explode. For some it is escape and entertainment, for some it may be a sport. I know for some fans it is a regression into being a swooning 13 year old girl, even if they never had the chance to actually be a swooning 13 year old girl. And still for others it is observing how gays are portrayed in the media.
I don't know that there is any viewer who only cares about weather or not Nuke have sex. I highly doubt that that viewer exists. Still, it wouldn't mitigate the excruciating and unjust fact that Nuke haven't had sex (on a soap opera of all places, and lest we forget his 14 year old nephew is no longer a virgin,) but Luke and Noah also don't act much like a couple of boys in love. That is a travisty to any young gay person who might be watching this show.
IF the only reason you talk about the show is to wave a flag and go "Rah! Rah! *Swoon* Rah! Rah! *Swoon*", why post at a site where folks engage in critical thought? Because you are libel to get hurt.
If people are unable to roll with critical thinking about gays in the media there really is no place in hell for a site like AfterElton unless AfterElton strives to be the gay, online verson of Entertainment Tonight.
The comparison of suspending disbelief for a particular vampire story and suspending disbelief for a particular soap opera which promised to do justice to the telling of a gay story -is just plain crazy. For one thing Buffy is not telling the story of a young gay couple coming to terms with what that means on a show that deals with the subject of love and romance on a daily basis. I believe BTVS deals with killing mythological beings. I know plenty of folks who confront the subject of love and romance in their daily lives. Confronting the undead? Not so much.
Damn it. ATWT has not only made a profit at the expense of it's gay characters, they accepted awards for producing a show with gay characters that were suppose to be fair representations and inclusive. That is what the GLAAD awards are about, in theory anyway. When ATWT accepted that award, they should have been accepting that idea as well, not just laughing behind our backs. (but to be sure, GLAAD will give them another award if just for the recognition of laughing.)
The writers and producers (P&G) of this show have done and continue to do little to make this couple inclusive. At one time, the fans of ATWT actually believed that this show was helping young gay people to come to terms with their sexuality. What happened? Now, the show no longer has that potential? What happened is that the show did start out that way, but the producers buckled. They stopped caring and no longer wanted to be part of the solution. I can't applaud them for that, because they are not doing the gay community a favor. I see it the other way around.
When you make the argument that a soap opera has crazy logic and therefore it is okay for them to spit on the gay characters, you are basically making excuses, excuses that lead to the fact that it is okay for any producer (if they are crazy enough) to spit on gay characters and I will not agree with that.
The "internal logic" of a soap does not preclude homophobia nor does it excuse it. Never. When we except that as "logic", we accept all bigotry and homophobia and the thought of that makes me shudder even while I see it happening every day in small but increasing steps. There is no "logic" in that, internal or otherwise.

I agree it is wrong, but aren't you making an assumption. ATWT has said that the reason that they are not showing intimacy between the couple is because they are telling an old fashioned story, what ever they mean by that. Over six months ago polls were showing that an overwhelming number of fans actually want to see Nuke do the dirty. The only reason they haven't is because P&G are placating their friends at the American Family Association. (That's my assumption, for what it's worth.)
darcolover wrote:

With all due respect darcolover, you are the last person I would ask to outline my choices. I have many besides the two you offer in regard to this show. One of them which you ignored is the choice to observe and comment on this show as a social phenomena and it's representation of gays in the media. While that isn't everyone's choice, I believe that is an important one. If you don't like that, well, you have two choices ...
I agree with everything you say. Though I'll also add that I intellectually understand where Nukely and Amadeus and others of their ilk are coming from - they see ATWT as not merely a soap opera, but as a sociological/political phenomenon. And I can understand their feelings on that score. (Though it must also be said that the obsession of some with this soap opera rises to a level that personally strikes me as very odd. I think for some it's as much a matter of frustration in wanting to see two hot guys get it on, and that frustration can be interpreted by them as a political reaction.)
I've pretty much given up even reading these debates since the exact same points are being made by both sides over and over and over. The same points that have been made on this thread were made at the time I first joined AE, and by many of the same people. (I was bored tonight and got sucked in again!) Really, the bottom line is different perceptions and different value systems. You and I see the show as primarily a soap opera with political undertones. Others see it as a political/sociological thing that just happens to reside in the body of a soap opera. Those perceptions really won't change for anyone, and so arguing about those issues over and over again is pointless. You and I see Nuke as part of a process of a societal gay "coming out" that will evolve over time, and we realize that such processes take time, whether it's just or reasonable or not. Others don't accept the inevitability of that process. Again, those are basic perceptions of how things are, and those differences really can't be bridged.
Amadeus compares the lack of sex for Nuke to Stonewall, which leaves me scratching my head in wonderment. But in his value system it makes sense. Nukely sees the Nuke characters as a slap in the face of gay people, which also leaves me scratching my head. But in his value system that makes sense. How does one argue basic perceptions or value systems? Changing one's value system, if it happens at all, is a long process that won't be impacted by arguing on message boards.
Except the "of their ilk" comment. I am not surprised by you using that phrase as much as I am surprised by that phrase at all. I am part of an ilk. How do I put that on a T shirt is my first thought.
seanb wrote:

Pretty much, that's one of the choices I was referring to.

Just? Resonable? inevitable? Process? You're full of yourself.
seanb wrote:
societal gay
What is that suppose to mean? As opposed to what kind of "gay" you might approve or disapprove of, I ask? "Societal Gay" also looks like a phrase for a T shirt.
seanb wrote:

Ha Ha! When I was rereading my post before submitting, I thought to myself: "Nukely's going to jump all over the "of their ilk" comment. I almost took it out, but then I wanted to prove myself right! Yes, you're part of an ilk. Better than being part of a clique, I suppose....
Another initial thought I bypassed was that I wouldn't reply to you since it's pretty much pointless on a substantive level. But I find that you're growing on me to the point where your posts amuse me!
You did totally misread my sentence with "societal gay" in it. In that sentence the word "gay" was used as an adjective, not a noun. I was not talking about a person who was a "societal gay". I was talking about the evolution of society where the gay "issue" is becoming more prominent by the day, and where being gay is becoming more accepted by the day. It's sort of analagous to a personal coming out. And so I called this evolution a "gay coming out" with gay as an adjective.
You also give the appearance of misreading the comment about the process of changing one's value system, and the total lack of impact of message board arguing on that process. But of course you were intentionally misreading it. Obviously, and I now realize you understand things like this, I was making no effort whatever to change anyone's value system or perceptions. That truly is pointless. You have yours and I have mine, and all I can really do is quote Walter Cronkite: "That's the way it is."
And I'm grateful to be able to make your day! You are, as always, right right righter than right and god bless you for that. I even love how you fumble over your syntax. Adorable. You. So.
And I guess after reading that I should thank you for not trying to change my value system, anymore, like you said you were trying to do but are back peddling on.
You are such a funny, fluffy cuddle of fuzzy bull shit. I love it!
Thanks for your post, I laughed at a lot of it, when I realize exactly how much disbelief we regularly suspend with our favorite shows.
And in the year-and-a-half I've been watching ATWT (started because of Luke & Noah), I've become concerned about the writing for the whole show. Forget about just Luke & Noah. Examples? Everything involving Sophie, Chris, Baby Jessica (sorry, Ethan) down the well, Paul's father. With the comings and goings on the show, it seems that very little has changed in the lives of Oakdale residents all this time.
Forgetting Luke & Noah, TPTB/Writers of ATWT squander excellent story possibilites (Carly & Holden, for one), or otherwise don't know how to effectively manage their stable of characters--Lucinda, Bonnie, Henry & Vienna, Tom & Margo, Casey, Aaron, Dr. Bob & Kim, Mike K, Barbara, and so many others. Paul, Meg, Craig and/or Dusty seem to be on a merry-go-round of trust/distrust that recycles every couple months.
YES! I would love to see some representation of Luke & Noah's intimacy, even if it isn't in bed. Morning after kinda stuff--as long as they aren't giggling and jumping on the bed. My worry for the show goes beyond Luke & Noah.
The writing generally is pretty bad, even in the construct of the ATWT universe. (Can anyone explain why JJ wasn't at Jack & Janet's wedding on Friday?) I continue to watch. I just happen to use the FF button on my DVR remote more often these days than I should have to.
And before Luke & Noah get back together, I'd prefer to see Luke become less of a whiny b*tch and Noah to be less wishy-washy. But hey, Maddie's coming back to town. Wonder what's gonna happen there. Will Col. Mayer be far behind?
Darcolover55 - if nothing else, you are entertaining though a bit long-winded.
Actually, you've made my point for me. The "key" is in fact the "consummation clock!" Maybe it won't work, maybe it will. It may or may not have worked for the kissing and so it is with the consummation clock. It is "awesome" - especially if it works!
As for why I berate ATWT writers who for whatever reason will not or cannot allow Luke & Noah to be a "normal" sexual couple like every other in soapdom, it is because I care about how gay people are portrayed on television or in films or on the stage. I remember only too well Stonewall and the effect it had BECAUSE WE STOOD UP (ALTHOUGH I WAS IN L.A. ON THAT SPECIAL NIGHT) AND DIDN'T ALLOW THE POLICE TO HAVE THEIR FUN WITH US! WE FOUGHT AND SO WE MUST AGAIN EVEN THOUGH IT'S A RIDICULOUS SOAP OPERA!
In the end, Darcolover, ATWT is not a fairy tale - at least in the Buffy TV world. There are no fantasy creature vampires, Oakdale is made up of humans. And in the case of Van & Jake, very, very beautiful humans. And what's more if I want to watch ATWT on You Tube without sound only to look at these two amazing young men, I shall do so and you'll just have to deal with it...or not; I do not care.
I do care about how gay people are portrayed in the media & that even includes ATWT. So I shall continue voicing my objections along with the "Consummation Clock" and just maybe it WILL make a difference.
You are free to watch & enjoy in your world...and as this is America, so I may do the same in my world.
Yeah, it's turning into The Bold and The Beautiful where the same two or three couples exchange partners every couple of months. Makes no sense and leads to all kinds of inbreeding.
Brian has really been the freshest thing to happen to the show in awhile (Josie is just a retread of the Sophie storyline and yet another way to keep Dusty tied to Paul, Meg and Craig).
And how creepy is it that Craig is now involved with Dani, a girl he considered his own daughter for the first year of her life. EW. At least they acknowledged the old connection instead of ignoring it (like they seem to have done with Meg's hysterectomy).
Strippers
Over on the live blogging site someone said "this is all they could get?" with regards to the strippers... I have to say I agree! Wow they had a nice body but both were lame in the erotic dancer category. snore! Nice abs does not a stripper make.

I don't know where this story is going...but
at least Van is getting more airtime. Wish I knew where they are taking NUKE...that relationship seems to have been jettisoned.
Good Cliffhanger

I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.
Freedom of choice
Very well put!
Changing one's value system, if it happens at all, is a long process that won't be impacted by arguing on message boards.
totally expecting that.
Except the "of their ilk" comment. I am not surprised by you using that phrase as much as I am surprised by that phrase at all. I am part of an ilk. How do I put that on a T shirt is my first thought.
Toktally expecting that
You're brilliant
And I'm grateful to be able to make your day! You are, as always, right right righter than right and god bless you for that. I even love how you fumble over your syntax. Adorable. You. So.
And I guess after reading that I should thank you for not trying to change my value system, anymore, like you said you were trying to do but are back peddling on.
You are such a funny, fluffy cuddle of fuzzy bull shit. I love it!
kiss-kiss-joy-joy!
(are we still friends?)
....
I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.
Thank you!!!
I didn't expect that you'd notice how funny, fluffy and cuddly I am!!! Very perceptive. And you've never even been in bed with me!
Though you didn't catch that I NEVER wanted to change your value system. I just wanted you to be nicer to people.
Kiss-kiss-joy-joy back atcha....
that's just
a little bit too wierd for me.
but good for you?
Thanks for your post,
Thanks for your post, I laughed at a lot of it, when I realize exactly how much disbelief we regularly suspend with our favorite shows.
LOL2

ATWT/BB
