Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes
Via our corporate parent MTV, we've got a first look at a new trailer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. What is immediately apparent is that Sherlock (played by Robert Downey Jr.) has been turned into a kick-ass action star.
They also seem to be having fun with the close living relationship between Holmes and crime solving partner Dr. Watson (played by a still painfully handsome Jude Law). The way these two bicker lovingly with one another it could almost be Hart to Hart set in the Victorian age.
Check it out after the break!
Sherlock Holmes hits theaters December 25th.

Looks fantastic!
A couple?
It looks okaaaaaaaay
But I probably won't be shelling out my $10 to see it in theaters. I will however, absolutely be renting it. It looks too fun to pass up seeing it altogether.

I'm there.
I saw the trailer for this the last time I was at the movies. It looks good!
I'll definitely go see it in theatres when it opens.
Sorry, Ms. Hudson
This trailer has been playing at cinemas all over Europe for the past two months, and I'm frankly sick of it. If Hollywood wanted to make a CGI thriller set in Victorian England, why did they need to involve Holmes? Hasn't he been through enough? Have they forgotten Reichenbach Falls and the Billy Wilder film? There can be no excuse for turning Sherlock Holmes into Bruce Lee unless they plan to do something a bit more refreshing--like having him sleep with Watson, for example. After all, if they'd wanted Homes to be straight, why cast Mr. Downey?
"The mountain has wings."
I thought it was filmed to show them as a couple
Thought I read (here on afterelton) that the movie was supposed to have them cast in a relationship with one another. Maybe something like a bromance which evolved into a romantic relationship.
Is that still in the movie?
Not quite...
They are portraying the relationship between the two as something more than 'just friendship'. Fine, but I think too many people's eyes would fall out of their heads if the Watson/Holmes relationship was shown to be explicitly sexual. More than just friends COULD mean they are 'best friends' or perhaps 'friends with benefits' but a full-blown man-on-man relationship, in this setting and from these film studios, would be unreasonable and out of historical context.
Though to be honest, as someone said earlier, they've already seemingly turned Holmes into some kind of apprentice to Chuck Norris/Bruce Lee so the idea of him being a polyamorous bisexual horndog isn't quite so "out there".
