Your Gay of the Week: Kathy Griffin

We normally announce these things in our Best Gay Week Ever column, but you might have noticed — there isn't one of those this week. Sorry about that. Editor Michael Jensen is away at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour, and, with his attentions turned towards the collection of major gay scoopage for the upcoming fall TV season, that meant BGWE needed to take a brief hiatus.

But we didn't want to leave you hanging with respect to naming the winner of this week's Battle of the Network Gays contest — our newly crowned gay royalty is none other than Kathy Griffin.

"Now wait a minute!" I hear you saying. "She's not actually gay, is she?" True, she may only be an honorary gay, but she's earned sufficient queer cred to beat out three other contenders this week.

Why she won: She used her reality show  this week as a platform to advocate for gay marriage, and the sincerity and force of her convictions were very hard to miss. Even so, Kathy faced some stiff competition from Russell Tovey....

Past wins: This is Griffin's first win, and given that she's only an honorary gay, probably her last. So enjoy it while you can, Kathy!

Kathy's benevolent rule will last until next Thursday, when new challengers will vie for the crown. See you then!
