"Idol" Battle Redux: First Videos From Adam Lambert and Kris Allen
We watched them all spring, the unlikely friends, taking stage week after week, locked in a Highlander style battle for the hearts of America. In the end, America went hottie twink over studly goth. But by then it hardly mattered - they were both rock stars. And now they're proving it. We've got music videos from both of them in advance of their new albums. Adam leads with a movie soundtrack, while Kris comes with his first single. Which one is going to launch them into the stratosphere of Carrie Underwood? First up is Adam Lambert, with his video from the disaster flick from out director Roland Emmerich, 2012. "Time For Miracles" features visuals that only $200 million can buy. But it's not precisely classic Adam Lambert, like we're likely to get from his album. Then we have Kris Allen with his debut single, "Live Like We're Dying" which is a very Jason Mraz-style tune to my ear. It's got a great hook, and it's been stuck in my head since the first time I played it. Still, it's not precisely what I think of from Kris' time on Idol. So which song does it for you? Which gets you most excited for their albums? Kris Allen's debut album hits stores November 17th Adam Lambert's debut album hits stores November 23rd. Submitted by on Sat, 2009-11-07 11:58. |

I wonder if canadians can watch it?!
You can watch them
On You Tube. I tried to put nice links but failed, but a quick search over there will get you the clips.
Here are the YouTube links
Adam Lambert's Official Video for Time for Miracles
Kris Allen's Official Video for Live Like We're Dying

Thanks, but
The link for Adam's still didn't work for me but this one did:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa7l79I15ts
Strangely enough, the original clip for Kris's song here in the article works fine for me.
Eh
Adam's vocally superior, but Kris is gifted with the guitar to complement his voice.
I ended up liking Kris's more organic song over the overdramatic emo's one. Adam's facial contortionism gets tiresome.
Unfortunately, I could only
I'm sick and tired
of this kind of stupid and bitchy comments about Adam on gay sites. It's like some people don't have enough with the homophobes that need to act like jerks everytime Adam's name is mentioned.
And people still wondering why gay actors and singers don't come out of the closet. The worst comments about Adam always come from gays, so maybe is that the answer.
By the way, time for miracles is not Adam's single, it's just the song from 2012 movie. The single is for your entertainment
100% agreement
Just so you know...
and also to everyone complaining about this song being linked solely to 2012.........it's not his "lead" single for his debut album, but Time for Miracles will still be included on his album For Your Entertainment.

Completely transparent.
Umm..... Neither?
But if I had to pick one to waste my hard earned dollars on, it would be Kris.
Actually, today was the first time I'd heard either of them sing.
Canadian eh!
was able to view clips. Although I can honestly say I have never watched and have no interest in watching Idol, I can honestly say I have in no way, shape or form, care anything about Mr Lambert or his career, and going by looks alone, I say Kris would have my vote.
and I am uninamious in this.
Adam v. Kris
What is so cool about those guys as that they are really good friends. They both won Idol since both of them are going to release hugely successful albums.
Adam's album is going to be killer! It is unlike his single for the movie soundtrack of 2012. Here is a video clip of 30 sec samples of each song in his upcomng album:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL9QD2Wqjlc
He really mixes up the genres and am very excited for it.
Don't get me wrong, I love Kris too but I feel like he doesn't add anything new. But he is a very good singer. I'm proud of them both. Perhaps they could collaborate on a few songs together in the future.
Totally Agree
Six and one half dozen
Adam's song is so painful that I fully expected to like Kris's better, if only by default. But Kris's song sounds like the needle got stuck in a groove. Plus, he has to shout to be heard over the band. So it's a wash.
"The mountain has wings."
I liked Adam and I'll actually be buying his album
I'm not surprised by so many people's liking of Kris' single better than Adam's single, but Adam's song has grown on me and from my own personal experience Time for Miracles is more original to me. Live Like We're Dying is cliche-ridden to the point of overhaul, and after months of Miley Cyrus' The Climb (which I'm embarrassed to say that I liked) Kris' song was just too tiresome and unoriginal. Also, Tim McGraw did a MUCH better job on the topic a few years back with Live Like You Were Dying which can be seen here. While I do admit that Kris' song ( or maybe just the hook/beat of the song) is catchy and I am impressed that his vocal skills are being utilized and not neutered, it just doesn't do it for me. But I know Kris won't be a flop like that gray haired guy who won Idol 2-3 years back. He's got the chops, but....... Adam's got the better video, better lyrics, and better vocal talents to keep me awake during the entire song.
On a side note: I couldn't view Kris' video here either. I had to go to YouTube to see it. If anybody else has that problem, the video can be seen here.

LLWD's special meaning for Kris
Your unorginal and cliche-ridden is another person's heartfelt and special meaning. I suspect that Kris found a deeper personal connection to LLWD's lyrics because he actually came close to dying when he contracted a life-threatening illness while on a mission to Africa a few years back.
As for Miley Cyrus' The Climb, it's actually a pretty good song. Here's what it sounds like when performed by folks who can actually sing without needing AutoTune.
Turns out I actually like the song....
when The Script is singing it. And I commend Kris for choosing this song, as hearing it from The Script makes me like it too, but it just doesn't have that UMPH/IT factor. Like I said before, Kris is a good singer, but to be honest, I know both Kris and Adam can and will do a lot better than both of these debut singles.

Not the best song on Kris' album
AOL has it up streaming and LLWD is not the best song from the album. Although a big Kris fan I don't like the song myself because of the production. The Script's guy produced his version as well and I think that was a mistake. I'd have made some changes.
Still, I like the video. It's much better than I feared based on debut videos of past Idol contestants.
Kradam FTW!
Or more accurately... Kradison FTW!
I'm pulling for all 3 of them and am looking forward to the debut albums of all three. If I had to choose between these two music videos though, I'd go with Kris Allen's. It's very nicely produced and I really like him singing The Script song, Live Like We're Dying.
But to answer the question "Which one is going to launch them into the stratosphere of Carrie Underwood?" Truthfully? Neither video/song. Might happen with Adam Lambert with a different song. If Kris approaches the successful career paths of artists like Jamie Cullum and Jason Mraz, I think he'd be more than satisfied.
Btw, Kris unveiled 3 other songs off his upcoming album during the concert he gave at the Dolphins Tailgate party on October 25/09 and I really enjoyed them all. [Before We Come Undone, Can't Stay Away, Written All Over My Face]
Adam's Time For Miracles is perfectly suitable as the typical movie tie-in power ballad (his ever-changing hair style in the music video is lol-worthy) but I'm more interested in what the music video for the actual first album single, For Your Entertainment, will be like, considering the lyrics are all double entendres for S&M. :P
For Canadians and others who can't watch the geoblocked video link above, here's Time For Miracles on Adam's official MySpace video page.
Allison Iraheta doesn't have a music video out yet for her first single, Friday I'll Be Over U but her song is available in both English and Spanish.
I had no idea that it was a cover of The Script's song
and for some strange reason, I like their version better!!! It seems more original and heart felt coming from them. Anybody curious enough to judge for themselves, you can hear it here.

it was the B-side of a German single
I think LLWD was the B-side of a Script single sold in Germany a few years ago; it was never released as one of their own singles. Of course, with the internet, it's ended up on YouTube, available to everyone. Kind of a questionable move by Kris' management and label to release this song as his first single.
Oh well, I still like his voice singing it and the vast majority of the U.S. audience will have never heard of the Script and their version.
I agree
I agree but not because it's a cover, Adam's got Pink and Muse rejects on his album.
The problem I have with it is the producer of both versions is the same so the comparison is undeniable. A better strategy would be to use a different producer to get a sound more in keeping with Kris rather than the Script.
It's a bit of an ignorant move by his team given today's internet ubiquity. Labels try to ghetto certain songs but B-sides find a way of reaching YouTube or elsewhere so everyone can hear them not just the chosen country's market.
Its hard to tell on the internet
I don't want to vote yet
Neither
That option would have been my choice. I ended up voting for Allen's because it's, I think, an slightly better song but mostly because I can't see a poll and not vote -don't judge me, I'm sure we all have dirty secrets like that!
My "hit potential" radar doesn't work at all, so I wouldn't be surprised if both these tracks get HUGE succes :)
Just seems to me
Time for miracles isn't
Time for miracles isn't really Adam's single. And the video is a promotion for a movie. I don't see how it can be compared to Kris'.
The single is For yor entertainment - completely different - and the video is bound to be as well. Why not wait until it's out?
Sorry but WTF?
This is hugely misleading. You know that "Time For Miracles" is not the single for Adam's album and you know that nothing else on the album sounds like that. "Time for Miracles" in no way represents the style of music that Adam will put forward Adam on his CD. If you are going to do this, you should have used "For Your Entertainment". But really, why do this at all? It's immature and unnecessary. If they were vying for the same niche, then maybe only one could make it, but this doesn't make any sense.
Re: "Adam wants to be a star and Kris wants to be an artist."
Adam wants to be a pop star. He's been totally up front about this. Some people might think pop stars like Bowie, Madonna, and Prince aren't artists, but I disagree. It's completely different. A pop star is about the whole package: music, image, cultural significance. Adam is pushing all of those buttons, so I'd say he's well on his way.
Edited to add: I'm sorry for being defensive. I realize that this post is meant as a diversion. This is one of only a few queer media sites which is not generally Adam-negative, so what strikes me as an unfair comparison was surprising. I do like TFM the song. I don't like TFM the video, and since it's intended as promotion for the movie more so than for Adam, I do think it's unreasonable to judge it up against Kris' LLWD video (which is obviously made to promote Kris as an artist, and does so effectively).
Through all of Idol, I don't think I ever once liked
nevermind . . .
This is just meant to be a fun Saturday afternoon diversion.
It's a game folks....
Both videos came out about the same time, it seemed like a fun weekend game. It's not like it matters to their careers other than giving both of them publicity.
If I'd had a video for For Your Entertainment, I would've used it. And I have a feeling when I do have the video, I will use it. We all know it's his true single, we've covered it extensively, just like we've covered this movie tie in extensively.
Kris' video is surprisingly ambitious-looking
and quite lovely. I like the song.
I like them both.
Vanilla Breeder
Grow up
In case you haven't bothered to read the remarks, most people here, gay and straight, like both singers. Their voices are both good. Their styles are different, but there are well-known gay singers in both fields of music.
Fields of Music lol
Openess??
really from what i remember during AI Adam didn't have the balls to be open bout his gayness. He only came out publically after the fact.
so check yourself.
Openness
He had a contract with the show
Both are not very good
But Kris's is slightly better.
Also to PhDude, those breeders made you. Do not be disrespectful to straight people it just shows you up to be a bigot.
FU
Seriously?!!
You're gay and you're calling someone a "fag"?
And straight people are not your enemy, I'm a straight ally thank you very much.
Besides, "breeders" technically keep the population alive, and without them YOU WOULDN'T BE BORN.
So go take your hate somewhere else, preferably where no one has to listen to it.
You too can be saved by the blog! www.savedbytheblog14.blogspot.com
I may be straight, but I'm not narrow.
What a poor excuse you are.
And the only person who has been the real hater so far is You. You have voted down zero's to every comment (you'll probably do so to this one too) who even remotely gave Kris a little praise, or a positive side-mention, even if they praised Adam in the same paragraph! You have shown that you have no respect at all for their opinion, even if its just their taste in music, which last I heard is well within their right to have just as you have yours.
But your feelings seem to go well beyond music and being a fan of Adams (which I dont think he'd even want you as a fan if he heard the things you say.) In your reaction to Kris Allen and "breeders" you only show that you are no better than the extreme homophobic bigots out there who judge and write-off Adam and GBLT people simply over their sexuality. You have shown the EXACT same attitude that they do, just on the other end of the spectrum and are doing our community no favors at all with it, just as the straight bigots do no good for their community. Your remarks burn just as many bridges with the straight community as their bigots burn bridges with ours. Tell me...how do you handle going outside in the real world every day, having to speak to straight co-workers or relatives? What do you tell your straight frie--Do you have a straight friend? Do you tell the straight cashier at the store that your sick of her breeder ways? Whether you like it or not we all share this world together (I tell that to straight homophobes when I see them and it applies just as much to extremists with your attitude,) continue to isolate yourself from the breeder side and while you continue to get angry and annoyed there alone in front of your computer, leave us out of it.
LOL
Did he call me a faggot?
I take umbridge at that!
I sir am a arse bandit, a up hill gardener, a shirtlifter, a backside botherer, a gaylord, a battyboy, a queer, a bugger, and a sodomite!
But as a Brit I am never a fag!
Those come in packets of ten or twenty and cost about a fiver and I can assure you I am by no means that cheap!
Oh man
Ah if only
To PhDude
If you're over the age of 15 there's something seriously wrong with you. If you knew even the basics of psychology you'd recognize that it's people like you, expressing hatred and prejudice as an overcompensation, who are self-hating. No one comfortable with his sexuality would say what you say above.
And no one with any intelligence or common sense would go through the messages, giving zero votes to even the most innocuous ones, simply because they mentioned a "breeder" without condemning him. When I first saw your name I thought it referred to you having a PhD. That obviously isn't the case. I'd suggest it was a reference to your corrosive acidity, but I'm sure you wouldn't think of something that clever.
Bigoted, hateful people like you are sorry representatives of gay people. Please - go have sex with a woman and get off our side.
Elmer Phudd, rhymes with Dudd
If this guy has a PhD in anything other than bigotry, I'm depositing mine in the nearest trash can. As one of the posters whose message got a zero, I wasn't going to say anything, but I'm proud to see you, Dennis Mpls, and others stepping up to the plate. I think Phudd must be a twelve-year old without adequate parental supervision. If not, he's a heavy breeder, er, breather. Not to worry, however; he's not long for this site.
"The mountain has wings."
excuse me, please... what???
No no! NO NO!!! Trying to pass the buck, are you dear? That sweetheart is yours. I can assure you: we wont have him. We leave him to you with pleasure and kind regards ;)
