AfterElton Briefs: Sheldon Is Not Gay, "ANTM" Gets Gayer, Dan Choi Is Still Lt. Dan Choi, and more
Happy Birthday!
Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear. Yes, we're serious.
- Above you can see that Jim J. Bullock is celebrating his 55th birthday by splitting a rainbow cupcake with our community's most consistent ally, Judith Light, who turns a stunning 61 today.
- Spike Jonz documentary Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak will be released on DVD March 2. The story of the out author of Where The Wild Things Are originally aired on HBO last year.
- As we in the Mid-Atlantic brace for yet another snow storm, supermarket shelves are bare. In D.C., so are condom shelves. Play safe, guys.
- Vogue's Andre Leon Talley is joining America's Next Top Model at the judging table for the next three seasons. It's possible he may upstage the contestants, as he had 13 custom Chado Ralph Rucci cloaks made for his wardrobe.
Not just anyone can rock those shoes.
- Joe.My.God points us to a most interesting article on Christian Newswire, where Pastor Ken Eastburn tells his flock "Don't worry about gay marriage, worry about your own lives." That's the most Christian thing I've ever heard a minister in America say in a long time.
- I'm all about beating a dead horse, but the Spurf™ over at Entertainment Weekly has got to drop the "Is Sheldon gay?" thing about the Big Bang Theory. I can't imagine Sheldon reproducing outside a Petri dish, and I like him that way.
- Remember Lt. Dan Choi who became the face of Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal in this country? It turns out he's still in the military. No one has gotten around to processing his discharge, and he was called to training drills over the weekend. Our friends over at The Bilerico Project have a great set of pictures of Lt. Choi and his big gun.
- I suppose a Lady GaGa doll from The Grammy Awards was going to happen whether anybody realized it or not.
I hope they send her one as a gift.
- We spend a lot of time looking forward, the next episode, the next series, the next movie release. The Advocate took a minute to look back, to the 1967 CBS News special The Homosexuals by Mike Wallace. They've got the full 45 minutes of video and some commentary, and it's well worth a look.
- We still haven't managed to verify FUB's Twitter account, but assuming it's true, he's about to film a PSA for Cyndi Lauper today with Brett Claywell, who also appears to also be (unconfirmed) on Twitter. We're working on verification and details.
Scott needs to go to the gym first - is it a naked PSA?
- Jeff Probst has signed on for two more seasons of the gay-inclusive Survivor. I'd be more excited if he'd occasionally do the show in his undies like his buddy over at The Amazing Race.
- The judge deciding the Prop 8 case is gay. NOM is losing their cookies over that tidbit, but the local paper says it doesn't matter. Would gays have grounds for appeal if the judge were straight? Totally unrelated: Out gay man nominated to the federal bench for the first time.
- Archies, the largest greeting card company in India is making history this Valentine's Day. They're offering gay-specific cards in all 500 of their stores, two for gay men, two for lesbians, and one gender-neutral. That's huge for India, and five more choices than my local Hallmark has for me.
- The Sundance Channel has announced their original series for 2010, and included in the mix is Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys. The series will explore women and their gay best friends through four couples. It premieres in August.

Sheldon isn't gay
I completely agree that Sheldon isn't gay. If he's anything he's asexual, or perhaps just clueless. I don't think he cares that much about it either, and I like him that way. He wouldn't be Sheldon if he did care about that, if that makes any sense.
I think TBBT is a really good show, and one of the best sitcoms currently airing on tv. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
Harvey Milk: You gotta give 'em hope.
If anyone is gonna get on
If anyone is gonna get on the homotrain its gonna be Raj. The writer's have been very coy with his sexuality plus with his jealously of Howards girlfriend.
I know the writers deny it,
Lt. Dan Choi
The Homosexuals
Holy crap, I've been wanting to see this for years. I was under the impression that it was unavailable because one of the gay interview subjects withdrew his release. Maybe the guy's dead and it's become moot.
Mike Wallace has repudiated his involvement with the program saying he took Socarides and Bieber at face value. But, Wallace was close friends with designer James Amster and his long-term partner and knew them to be a happy well-adjusted couple and just ignored that.
ETA: This appears to be an edited version of the program. Sources indicate that a man known as Lars Larson was the first person interviewed but he doesn't appear in this version. He's the one who withdrew his consent.
Overall this was pretty hideous but not as hideous as it could've been. Socarides and Bieber were pretty much parroting the party line as it was at that time (their more serious crime was in helping to formulate that party line in the first place) and Gore Vidal spoke very eloquently (as would be expected). Albert Goldman is batshit crazy. The most damaging aspect was the self-loathing men who hid themselves in shadows and behind potted plants as they spoke of their tragic lives. I remember some of the shitty things broadcast about homosexuality when I was growing up in the 80s and the bad effect they had on me. I can't imagine being a teenager or even an adult in 1967, in a complete vacuum of easily accessible information, and being subjected to this. I can understand why it's been labeled "the single most destructive hour of antigay propaganda in our nation's history."
Yeah but.....
Scott Evans on Twitter
That definitely is Scott Evans twitter account. Anthony linked a radio interview with Brett & Scott in GOOL and on the show they talk about Scott joining twitter and how both him & Brett have no idea how to use it. It's pretty funny.
Here's the link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/buzzworthyradio
Scott is learning twitter fast
I'm impressed - he's getting right down to business with that twitter account. I've had a twitter account for a while, and haven't yet seen the appeal.
As another commenter said, the interview linked in GOOL verifies the twitter account.
Second time today...
That's the second time today I've looked to outside sources (PR people, specialty sites) for verification of something that we had internally. D'oh!
In my defense, I never get to Anthony's column until Wednesday afternoon. Memes, Briefs and picking out Briefs Guys take up my Mondays.
My heart goes out to you!

Oh how you suffer for your art! ;P
Just joshin' ya. Your several-times-daily hard work on our behalf is much appreciated!
Twitter..
Scott is indeed learning fast and so am I suddenly, lol! No, I don't find Twitter that appealing either..
Brett said he has a Twitter account but doesn't bother using it (he doesn't know how). All that appears on his Twitter account is stuff he posts on his fan Facebook page.

Judge-ment day
I met Vaughn Walker
in Palm Springs a decade ago at an AIDS benefit in Palm Springs. When I moved to SF we spent some time together. There are few more intelligent, fair, or principled people in the judiciary, in this world, straight or gay. That is all we can ask of a judge.
Aime-mois moins, mais aime-moi longtemps
He might not be gay...
but for Sheldon, why label it? He's not interested in sex or the orientation of it, but I think everybody deserves to love and be loved in return. So I hope he find his soulmate down the line. Someone who he cerish and love like never before. Who knows, this new feeling might actually motivate him enough to win the Nobel... :)
And I hope it's a guy because that would create interesting situations with his lovely mother... :D
