AfterElton Briefs: Resurrecting Ianto Jones, Helping Cyndi Lauper Help GLBT Youth, Wiccan's Back, plus more Derrick Martin!
Plus, Brothers & Sisters tanks, Doctor Who soars, Lea Michele returns to Broadway, and doesn't Jesse Tyler Ferguson look nice ... for the 19th century.
Isn't he dapper?
- We may not be the biggest fans of the Out Power 50 list around here, but we can all agree that the cover of the issue is adorable. Plus, Jesse was precious when he tweeted that he had never expected his mother to ask him when an issue of Out was hitting newsstands.
- Joe.My.God evidently watches Celebrity Apprentice, and I'm glad someone does, otherwise we wouldn't know that Cyndi Lauper's team won their makeover challenge last night, giving a new look to country star Emily West. The win netted them $20k for the True Colors Fund, but even better is the news that Emily announced 100% of the proceeds of iTunes sales from her single "Blue Sky" featuring Keith Urban would be donated to the True Colors Fund.
- Speaking of Cyndi Lauper, she was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last week talking about her various equality initiatives such as Give A Damn. She also dishes a little about being on Donald Trump's show and being friends with Rosie.
- Our favorite coffee boy, Ianto Jones returns to life this month in a comic in the official Torchwood Magazine. The original work was penned by none other than Gareth David-Lloyd, and is already on sale in the UK arriving in the colonies May 11. h/t cufflinksandtie
- Stick with me, because I don't do comics, but our own Lyle Masaki informs us that a nine-issue, limited edition of Avengers: The Children's Crusade is underway, with six issues already written by the original Young Avengers team. The plot centers around Wiccan experiencing a "cataclysmic event" requiring him to find and redeem the Scarlet Witch. I'm guessing bad news for Hulkling?
- Happy birthday to Milk star, and generally coolest-guy-in-Hollywood James Franco, who turns 32-years-old today.
He'll eat it when he wakes up.

- Out opera star Paulo Szot talks about his recent roles in South Pacific and at the Met in The Nose. He also confirms that he's gay and partnered. For the record the site that "just put it on the Internet after inquiring of his management" was us, though I don't think it was scandalous.
- Glee's Lea Michele will be returning to Broadway to announce the Tony Award nominations with Jeff Daniels May 4th. It seems like an odd pairing, but more power to them.
- You can stream or buy "81 Words," the episode of This American Life that describes how the American Psychiatric Association in 1973 decided to remove homosexuality from their list of disorders.
- The Spurf™ has a list of the season finale dates for all your favorite shows, and it looks like you need to call in sick May 16-24 if you want to catch it all. Highlights include Brothers & Sisters May 16, Modern Family May 19, and Glee, which toughs it out until June 8.
- I was reading this piece saying that Miley Cyrus can't make the UK premiere of her movie The Last Song because of the volcano, and that the premiere of Iron Man 2 had been moved from London to Los Angeles. And isn't it now clear what we must do: Iron Man must fly over the volcano and drop Miley Cyrus in to appease the angry volcano god.
- And I don't really have an angle to wishing Hayden Christensen Happy 29th Birthday, I just liked the picture and felt like using it.
He makes an excellent model.

- As an addition to earlier coverage of Derrick Martin's prom, Towleroad has the story from the first-hand point-of-view of Arturro Beeche, who flew in from Berkley to be the boys' chaperone.
- In ratings news, BBC America says the U.S. premiere of Doctor Who was a record for them with 1.2 million viewers and a 0.9 rating, letting them come in second in their time slot amongst cable networks.
- Faring not nearly as well were Brothers & Sisters and Desperate Housewives which hit series lows for a first run broadcast. As snicks says, I'm sure this gets blamed on the gays somehow.
- David Archuleta tries tweeting himself out of the gay club hole he tweeted himself into over the last 24 hours. Sweetie - we understand, we know you didn't mean it, but stop talking before you trip over your tongue. Plus, you're too young for nightclubs anyhow
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
