AfterElton Briefs: Don't Ask, Don't Tell Reaches Boiling Point, Santino Rice Speaks, Adam Lambert is G-A-Y, plus Diddy Is Not
Sexy Max Ryan on being "man meat" in Sex and the City 2, Promises, Promises opens strong, True Blood gets violent, and has anyone seen Kevin & Scotty?
Air Force Major Mike Almy
- Above you can see United States Air Force Major Mike Almy, the latest to join "Stories from the Frontlines" from the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. He's written an open letter to President Obama calling for repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell by telling his personal discharge story, which doesn't serve the national interest.
- On that same subject, Michaelangelo Signorile took his Sirius-XM radio show to Washington, D.C. for a summit with gay leaders. Participants quickly turned on the Human Rights Campaign, and calls came for the leaders to resign if Don't Ask, Don't Tell isn't repealed, and the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) isn't passed - and fast. Click to watch.
- GLAAD is reacting to an editorial over the weekend in the pseudo-newspaper Washington Times against ENDA that plays the bathroom card and states "discrimination is necessary." That's about as blatant as it gets. There are actions you can take.
- RuPaul's Drag Race Santino Rice has done an epic interview, with never-before-seen pictures and all the good gossip. Plus, we have a clip from tonight's finale.
- E! talks to Sex and the City 2's Max Ryan (sounds like an 80s action hero) about being Samantha's "man-meat" in the female empowerment movie.
- Promises, Promises had its opening night on Broadway, and all the beautiful gays showed up for the premiere. The show also got pretty fantastic reviews, especially for the newly out Sean Hayes.
- Taking the rare step of sending a cease-and-desist letter for a (barely) blind item, Diddy's lawyers would like everyone to know (but especially gossip blogger Sandra Rose) that "Mr. Combs is not homosexual."
- In February we mentioned Mikey, a closeted hockey player blogging as HockeyKidMN. It inspired a vigorous debate in the comments as to the reality of Mikey, which has come into larger question in the last few days. I think it's safe to say, regardless of whether Mikey was real, he made a difference in the lives of youths around the world, including regular AfterElton.com reader Madeleine, who helped promote a community around Mikey. Personally, I'd like to remind those folks that even if Mikey may not have been real, the good done by all you finding each other for support is very real, and should not be diminished by recent events. Which isn't to excuse any potential unethical or illegal actions that might have taken place in any potential fakery.
- True Blood has released the final "Waiting Sucks" promo before the season starts in June, and this one features both Sookie and Eric, and may be a little spoilery.
- Spurf released some pretty hefty spoilers about the season finales of Private Practice, Desperate Housewives, and most importantly Brothers & Sisters. What strikes me most about Brothers & Sisters is the complete absence of Kevin and Scotty in the official ABC loglines.
- Over the weekend, Adam Lambert dropped into London superclub G-A-Y to perform, and we just had to show a few pictures of all the glitter and sparkle.
The eye makeup just gets more and more elaborate.

He plays to the crowd with his dancers.
