AfterElton Briefs: "True Blood"'s Straight Boys Go Gay, "Spartacus" Confirms a Prequel, Kylie Writes a Musical, and more!

First peek at HBO's werewolves, Cory Monteith on Ellen, Bret Easton Ellis speaks, the actor behind United States of Tara's Lionel, and ABC Family is having a coming out party.

James Frain as Franklin Mott on True Blood

  • We know that on True Blood, the Vampire King of Mississippi takes in a gay prosititute, Tony, played by 90210's Michael Stegers. But what we didn't know is that it might be spurred because his boyfriend of 700 years, Talbott made out with either Sam, Bill, Eric or Jason in the first episode. Which of these presumed straight characters do we want to see Talbott mack on?

  • We add werewolves as an additional supernatural species in this upcoming season of True Blood. Even with a smaller budget, they look better than Twilight werewolves to me.

  • All the characters on the United States of Tara inspire strong reactions, and the addition of Lionel this year is no exception. But originally, Lionel was written as more flamboyant than the political, militant gay teen that Michael J. Willett plays. I'm sad to hear he's not back for next season.
  • In today's Stories From the Frontlines we meet Former Petty officer Jason Knight, discharged under Don't/Ask Don't Tell, then recalled to active duty because the military needed him, only to be discarded under the failed policy when they didn't.
  • It's official - Starz is to begin filming a prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand that will recount the history of the House of Batiatus and focus on the characters played by Lucy Lawless and John Hannah. I'm hoping the champion they focus on that comes before Crixus is Barca.
  • They won't let me embed the new True Blood minisode featuring Lafayette, Tara and Sookie due to language, but I am allowed to point to it.
I've got this picture of Sam and his baby brother as a consolation prize.
  • Kylie Minogue is rumored to be working with Rent director William Baker to develop a Mamma Mia!-style musical based on the singer's music. I'm already doing the "Locomotion."
  • Today Glee's Cory Monteith turns 28, which means he may have repeated a few grades to still be in high school. Rather than bestow a rainbow cupcake on the straight boy, we'll just let you watch Ellen DeGeneres give him a birthday present.

  • Bret Easton Ellis, who refuses to identify as gay, straight or bisexual, has a new book out next month, Imperial Bedrooms, billed as a sequel to Less Than Zero, but really more of a sequel to everything he's ever written. Vice has an extensive interview with the author.
  • John Barrowman is evidently back across the pond and acting silly, inviting people to rub his lamp as he promotes his pantomine, Aladdin. But I'm impressed, not many guys can pull off that look.
  • And for reasons I can't recall, I had this alternate ending to The Wizard of Oz marked to share here. It's kind of like the literal music videos that were so popular.
