AfterElton Briefs: "True Blood" Previews, "Spandex" Gets Honored, and "La Cage" Cleans Up!

Plus we spend some time with former Rep. Eric Massa, see Westboro Baptist Church prove their stupidity, and find out why South Carolina hates their most vulnerable. Ronnie Kroell on set from his Playgirl shoot.

  • Another Sunday, another story in the New York Times about someone being gay in college athletics and it not being a big deal. The only thing better than that is the day that someone being openly gay in college athletics doesn't merit a story in the New York Times unless they win a national championship. Still, as softball coach at Oregon State, Kirk Walker sets a great example, and his daughter is adorable.
  • In Australia, MP David Campbell was outed as gay when he was filmed leaving a gay sauna. More surprising than a politician being secretly gay is that this secretly gay politician wasn't anti-gay. They really do things different Down Under.
  • South Carolina is poised to withdraw funding from their HIV/AIDS drug program, effectively sentencing thousands to death without treatment. I guess they spend too much money "hiking the Appalachian Trail" to worry about saving lives.
  • Below you can see a rapid fire exchange from the new season of True Blood between Sookie Stackhouse and Eric Northman, who appears to have been practicing some tantric sex when she interrupted his fun.

  • Pink Satan has declared that no one will watch the Tony Awards because Sean Hayes is hosting. He really is bad for the community - maybe he can go hang out with Ramin Setoodeh:
No One Will Watch The Tonys While Sean Hayes Is Hosting! Bad idea! That sounds sweet, but we highly doubt he's gonna be able to pull in the ratings!
  • I haven't had time to finish reading the profile on former Rep. Eric "Snorkle" Massa at Esquire, but it's sure to be a humdinger of a tall tale.
  • La Cage Aux Folles picked up Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, and Best Costume design at the Drama Desk Awards. Memphis picked up four major awards, and the ceremony was hosted by Patti LuPone.
  • Westboro Baptist Church flew in six people to protest the high school graduation of Constance McMillen at the school that told her she couldn't bring her girlfriend to prom. Funny thing is, Constance transferred out long ago, so Westboro protested bigots just like themselves!
  • With news of a possible deal on Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal leaking out of Washington, D.C., we hear today's Stories from the Frontlines from decorated Lt. Jenny Kopfstein. In her discharge investigations, both her commanders specifically wrote "sexual orientation has not disrupted good order and discipline onboard USS Shiloh.
  • And finally, I leave you with True Blood's minisode four, that takes place just after last year's season finale. Sam decides he needs to dispose of the bull headdress that Maryann wore when she got her maenad on.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
