AfterElton Briefs: Uncle Jesse Joins "Glee," T.R. Knight Likes Nerds, and Katy Perry Is Green With Jealousy
Plus Toy Story 3's Ken gives dating tips, Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen honored, and Scissor Sisters as "What if AIDS Never happened?"
Well, that's something I didn't expect to see.
- My Life On the D-List is back next week, and Kathy Griffin is in full promotional swing. I'm not sure what she was taping with Ryan Seacrest, but I do know that Lance Bass was also involved. She also dominated USA Today's Life section today.
- Glee has signed John Stamos to play Emma's love interest/dentist on the show next season. The 10+ episode role arose from a cheap shot Emma herself took at Stamos in the "Acafellas" episode. And I have to wonder if this announcement is related to the teaser at the end of Chris Colfer's MyFoxNY.com interview.
- This roundtable that The Hollywood Reporter put together of likely Emmy nominees for Best Actor in a Comedy is worth reading in the entirety beyond the clip. But I do like Big Bang Theory's Jim Parson's approach to work. I just wish Neil Patrick Harris had talked more.
- Some things never change: The oldest known joke is a fart joke. It dates back to 1900 B.C.
- Ziegfield's/Secrets is a gay strip club that in my day was the gay social hub in D.C. on Wednesday nights. It had closed for a number of years to make room for a baseball stadium in what was a horrible part of town. Now they've run afoul of a "no sexual activity" rule that no one ever followed, and has had their liquor license suspended.
- Yesterday I mentioned AT&T was going to allow iPhone upgrades "up to 6 months early" for anyone who has a contract renewal in 2010. The "up to" is the operative part of that sentence. Here's how you can check to see if you get six months early, or three months, like me.
- T.R. Knight was spotted walking down the street in New York City holding hands with a hunky, nerdy looking guy that will likely give snicks the vapors. T.R. always gets the hot guys.
- The gap since the last Scissor Sisters album has been way too long, but as Jake Shears tells it, he had another album written, but Sir Elton John told him "This isn’t it, this isn’t the record. It’s just not right." And so Jake went to play and have fun, and now we get Night Work June 28. Jake says the theme is "What if AIDS never happened?" The first single is "Fire with Fire."
- I wanted to give a shout-out to the not-always-SFW web comic Blur the Lines for today's bear-centric comic, including photos of this weekend's bear car wash.
- Speaking of body image, gay men are less likely to be obese than their straight counterparts. Also, the sky is blue and fire is hot.
- Katy Perry is hosting the Teen Choice Awards in August, but frankly, I couldn't be bothered. For an "artist" who made a name exploiting faux lesbianism, her review of Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" video just reeks of jealousy.
And you walking around a Hasbro board game with a cupcake bra is art?

- A play based on the life of Justin Fashanu, the only pro footballer to ever come out as gay while actively playing, will open in London next month. It will focus on the last year of his life, before he committed suicide.
- British Catholics are upset that Chennel 4 has commissioned Peter Tatchell to make a documentary about Pope Benedict XVI to air around the time the pontiff visits this fall. It's kind of like asking me to make a documentary about cats and expecting objectivity, but it's hard to pity the Pope.
- Vulture counts down the five best - and five worst - musical performances on Glee. I can't say I agree with everything, like rating "Physical" amongst the worst, and even "Bad Romance" makes their bad list. They did love "Rose's Turn" though, so it's not all bad.
- I refuse to watch The Bachelor, or The Bachelorette, or The Bachelor Pad - basically anything on ABC that involves a hot tub. So I was unaware that Toy Story 3's Ken was giving dating tips during the show. This probably isn't going to dispel rumors started by his ascot.
- Reports from Malawi say that the gay couple recently pardoned by the president under international pressue has split, and one of the pair has entered into an engagement with a woman.
- The Council of Fashion Designers honored Marc Jacobs as Womanswear Designer of the Year Monday night. They also awarded a Special Tribute to the late Alexander McQueen.
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
