AfterElton Briefs: Adam Lambert Headlines AMA Awards, Cristiano Ronaldo Gets in David Beckham's Underwear, and more

Based on the outfit, Adam's performance will be a country-western number from the year 1849.

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Adam Lambert appeared this morning to announce he'll be performing his first single, which he hasn't selected, but will be "glammy" at the American Music Awards November 22. Coincidentally, his new album goes on sale November 24.
  • There's hope for Southland continuing, on TNT, which makes sense, as both are by Warner Brothers companies.
  • If you're a NASCAR fan, you might be aware Jesse McCartney forgot the words to the national anthem this weekend. According to Funny-or-Die, below, the announcers were very forgiving.
  • A group of Russian singers and writers rallied for gay rights in Moscow after the mayor tries to close the city's longest running gay club.
T.R. Knight and Mark Cornelson
  • Despite reports otherwise, autopsy reports reveal that Stephen Gately died of natural causes.
  • Jason Segel teams with Nuno Bettencourt to produce a video from Monday's How I Met Your Mother; Neil Patrick Harris doesn't sing.
  • But NPH does sing in the upcoming episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold on Cartoon Network, where he plays villain Music Meister. EW has a preview clip that you'll have to go there to watch.
  • Not quite sure what to make of Joe Francis, of Girls Gone Wild fame, marching for gay rights in D.C. The more the merrier?
  • Cristiano Ronaldo will be taking over for David Beckham as the face - and body - of Armani underwear.
Out with the old, in with the new.
  • Glee creator Ryan Murphy responds to NBC banning his cast from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, "I completely understand NBC's position, and look forward to seeing a Jay Leno float."
  • In other Glee news, there's talk of the cast going on tour in 2010.

And today's Briefs (keeping a soccer theme) are brought to you by...

This guy!

    Joe Francis

I'm not surprised that Joe is pro-gay, but I am surprised that he's so actively pro-gay. My (second) cousin Abbey dated Joe earlier this year, and I always saw her in pics at the time hanging out with gay-friendly folks or actual gays, such as Mario Lopez and Lance Bass.  I thought it kind of odd that Lance would be so pal-sy with someone like Joe, but I guess celebrities tend to gravitate toward anyone who likes to party.  Anyway, it became pretty apparent to me that Joe was extremely comfortable with gay people.

    ouch.

    1) While i think we should be grateful for anyone's support, personally i wish Joe Francis would've stayed home.  His particular brand of celebrity doesn't add much to the message.

    2) And although i don't know how Jesse McCartney fits under the rubric of gays-in-entertainment, i feel compelled to comment.

Poor kid!  Maybe i was born without enough schadenfreude, but that clip makes me so uncomfortable, and i have to wonder why CNN feels compelled to show it over and over.  Having sung alot for audiences, and having had an episode of lyric-block (thankfully, not during the Anthem) i can relate to the stomach-churning embarrassment and nerves.  So, i say take pity, because he'll probably have nightmares about this.

    3) That Ryan Murphy quote is hilarious.

    4) Ellen's TR interview was so much fun!  i may put myself up for adoption.

    he's no hypocrite

One of the driving forces of the Girls Gone Wild popularity is getting young straight women to make out with each other, much to the delight of straight men.  I think it's great that Joe Francis is no hypocrite, and understands that this is, in fact, homosexuality.  Therefore he marches for our cause.  This connection is stupidly lost on a rather large percentage of rock-headed straight men.

    I would argue...

that the more uber-hetero guys like Joe Francis that are marching with us the better.  He may be distasteful to a lot of people, but if all those horny straight beer-burping guys who idolize him see him marching for gay rights, then that could only help open their minds toward us.  I welcome his support.

    Nuno!

Back when I was a young girl I had a huge crush on Nuno Bettencourt :) He still looks good and the clip, paroding the one for More Than Words is amusing.

    Poor Jesse...

I love him and his music, so I feel super bad for him right now. I think we all know how it feels to mess up like that, so lets cut him some slack.

    Those announcers were hilarious though!

    Reading Joe's rationale

...and sure it could just be a rationalization for seeking attention...but if I give him the benefit of the doubt of a rare moment of sincerity, his reasons for being there actually make total sense.

    Yum

If soccer players spent more time posing and less time, you know, playing soccer, I might watch the game.

    Stephen Gately

It's scary that you can die of natural causes while still young. That you can just go to sleep and never wake up.
    jjose712's picture

    True

I feel really bad on Stephen's death. He seemed a really nice guy, and he was one of the first popular singers to came out of the closet. But the fact that he is younger than me is scary.

    Sorry

    Double post

    RIP Stephen Gately

I'm glad the cause of death  (acute pulmonary edema -- excess fluid in his lungs)  was reported quickly.

The spokeswoman added that Gately's death had nothing to do with any consumption of alcohol or drugs.

There were already rumors that he died from his own vomit after a night of drinking -- WRONG.

    Good night, Sweet Prince

ok, yeah, the whole "girls gone wild"

ok, yeah, the whole "girls gone wild" thing is pretty dumb. girls lifting their tops up and making out with each other is...well...its been done to death.

that said, i will welcome anyone to 'the fight' as long as they're not the most disgusting form of human i loathe....child molestors or animal abusers.

If Joe francis is any of those things, do correct me. :-)
