AfterElton Briefs: "A Single Man" Gets Re-Gayed, GLBT Media Lives On, David Sedaris, and more.
Does the new poster, right, make it look less like Colin Firth and Julianne Moore are a couple?
Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear. Yes, we're serious.
- Above, you can see the two posters from Tom Ford's upcoming A Single Man. The poster on the left was the one that had people saying the marketing had been de-gayed. The one on the right, we're told, was designed with input from Tom Ford himself. Improvement?
- James A Roppo, a senior vice president for a record company has been arrested for failing to tweet. It's a crime now. Or at least it's a crime when you've had a mall taken over by tweens trying to see singing sensation Justin Bieber, and the cops want you to tweet for the tweens to go home. Don't know what a Justin Bieber is? Odds are you can legally buy alcohol then. Below he's on Chelsea Lately.
- Joss Whedon is going to receive the Vanguard Award from the Producer's Guild of America, which honors work in new media. No one quite sure what's being honored though, since Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog was over a year ago, and I can't remember another new media project he's done since.
- I'm going to guess that TNT is beginning to gear up the publicity machine for their airing of Southland next year, because Michael Cudlitz tweeted out this photo from a shoot.
Michael Cudlitz, Regina King, and Ben McKenzie.
- If you have Fuse TV, tonight at 9pm they're going to air a wide-ranging interview with Lady GaGa, which we have a preview of below.
- Last night while many of us were watching Lady GaGa and Adam Lambert on the American Music Awards, there was a NFL game on NBC. And Chicago Bear Devin Hester got pantsed on national TV*, and nobody, as far as we know, called the FCC or said professional sports should be banned from television. Mores the pity. *warning bare NFL player booty at link, possibly NSFW
- Last night, the cast of Glee was honored at the Diversity Awards in Los Angeles, and Jenna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley looked stunning for the event.

- We know reader Liz was disappointed in the turnout for the D.C. vigil for Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado, the slain Puerto Rican teenager. But turnout at the New York City event was considerably higher. And the statement from his mother, which I found on Tumblr, was heartwarming.
When my son told me he was gay, I told him, ‘Now, I love you more.’ I
want to tell the world that hatred is not born with human beings, it is
a seed that is planted by adults and is fostered creating a climate of
intolerance and violence. We must change our ways and understand that
anyone …could have been my son. And I want everybody to know that Jorge
Steven was a very much loved son.
- Rex Wockner, legendary GLBT journalist has a nice interview with Andy Towle up over on his personal blog. Topics range from why Andy's last name is so hard to spell to his boyfriend, and reminds us that most people making news these days are just regular folks.
- Tonight on Dancing With the Stars Kelly Osbourne and the adorable, out Louis Van Amstel are dancing in the finals. Here they are today on The Ellen DeGeneres Show being nine different kinds of adorable.
- Martha Stewart talks about Sarah Palin, calls her boring, confused and dangerous. Rod 2.0 has video of the queen of domestic bliss saying she wouldn't watch Sarah Palin "...if you paid me."
- I feel compelled, having mentioned Sarah Palin, that Levi Johnson had his Playgirl pictures released this weekend, and well, "meh." The pages I had marked with the full set have been removed, but I'm sure you can find them with a little effort. Trust me: It's not worth even a little effort.
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

I wonder what....
yikes...
i hope afterelton doesn't die...or i will die! kind of....in a way, i will. yup
The interview with Andy Towle amused me, because they said some people pronounce it wrong. that would be me. for the longest time, i said it like "towler road" and i knew with the one R, that didn't make sense, but even to this day, my brain tells me to say it that way. it's a process. i'm working on it
as for the "A single man" poster....pft.
they did the saaaame thing with Brokeback Mountain. it's funny to me, because even at the time, the posters said one thing, but the viewers knew better...so it's funny because why try and make the posters say "oh a film about a man and a woman loving each other" when the viewers already know what the movie is about? it's like do they think people are stupid? obviously they must. tsk
Me too!
There would be a big chunk missing from my day if afterelton.com went kaput. I hope that never happens.
I used to say Towler Road, then I realised it wasn't right, so I changed it to Towell Road. Now I see that's wrong too! I'll have to keep saying Toll Road, Toll Road, Toll Road to stop from straying.
The new "A Single Man" poster conveys exactly the same to me as the first one. What a joke. *rolls eyes* When I first saw the original story, before I read the book, I just assumed the movie was all about the relationship between the two of them. I was really surprised to see what a small role Julieanne's character actually plays in the book. I know they've changed a few things in the movie, but not to the extent that her character deserves appearing in the poster in such a dominating way.
A Single Man poster
I don't know.
I agree that the leaked Levi photos did not live up to all the hype.
He does have a cute little keister, though. Looks like a fun place to spend an afternoon. ;Þ
Yes, I'm over 21
I don't know who Justin Bieber is, but he looks small enough for Chelsea Handler to use him to stir her daiquiri!
And the Glee ladies look lovely! I'm glad to see them getting some love.

A Single Man
Like I said before, I don't care that the marketing has been de-gayed or re-gayed now or whatever. As long as the movie is pretty gay then I'm happy.
I think the reason why Julianne Moore is in the poster is because they are pushing her for a supporting actress nod. So there's obviously a reason behind it.
Harvey Milk: You gotta give 'em hope.
More on A Single Man
Personally I think the controversy over A Single Man's poster and marketing is nonsense. For me this is all about the fact that Julianne Moore is a top level actress who probably has it in her contract that her photo must appear on the poster and all marketing. Also, the Oscar race defintely has a role in this. Moore is a consistent nominee and should have won for Boogie Nights anyway. People read about movies now before spending money and I am sure the draw of Colin Firth (who has a strong following with women it seems around my mother's age) will bring the audience. If people do not want to see a movie about a gay man they won't go. And the trailer itself is certainly not shy about the gay themes.

The Gag is on
I posted this on another thread, but I think it's worth seeing. I like Lady Gaga in her present incarnation well enough, but it's interesting to see where she's coming from. This video may have already appeared on AE, but I am seeing it for the first time:

Gays in the Philippines Discriminated, As Always
I just came back from a week-long business trip in Manila, The Philippines. While there, I was appalled to the max and was so disappointed with the disqualification of a gay-rights group by the country's Election Commission to seek congressional seats claiming they are "immoral" and so on and so on. The news I read about the decision was downright medieval.
I guess you could put this in one of your news in brief thingy, here are the links for your reference:

The X Factor
I kinda feel that the whole Dannii/Danyl comment on X-Factor was blown a little out of proportion in the sense that I think she was kind of calling out the whole situation - Danyl was *VERY* open about his bisexuality before he went into the final 12 (he even did an interview talking about how he would have "have a go" with all the judges")
I understand that what she did was unproffesional calling out his sexuality on live TV but she also i think was making a point of asking why he had chosen to change the gener reference - not the smartest move i accept but i genuinely don't think it was meant in a homophobic manner. I watch the show every week (i am a massive geek!!) and i have noticed that Dannii out of all the judges seems to give genuine comments or reviews of the performance and i think that all she was doing when she said the original comment was to try and say something about him changing the reference not attacking him because of his sexuality.
I guess i should open the door to being flamed now :/

(P.s having said all of that Danyl is still a giant tool!! He does have a great voice, just a shame it's attached to a total and utter Diva!!!)
