AfterElton Briefs: "A Single Man" Gets Re-Gayed, GLBT Media Lives On, David Sedaris, and more.
Does the new poster, right, make it look less like Colin Firth and Julianne Moore are a couple?
Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear. Yes, we're serious.
- Above, you can see the two posters from Tom Ford's upcoming A Single Man. The poster on the left was the one that had people saying the marketing had been de-gayed. The one on the right, we're told, was designed with input from Tom Ford himself. Improvement?
- James A Roppo, a senior vice president for a record company has been arrested for failing to tweet. It's a crime now. Or at least it's a crime when you've had a mall taken over by tweens trying to see singing sensation Justin Bieber, and the cops want you to tweet for the tweens to go home. Don't know what a Justin Bieber is? Odds are you can legally buy alcohol then. Below he's on Chelsea Lately.
- Just in time for Black Friday, you can look at the Human Right's Campaign's (HRC) 2010 Buyer's Guide, and try and spend your pink dollars with companies the HRC approves of.
- Three gay-themed films were intecepted by Canadian customs officials on their way to Ottawa Film Festival. One is the PG-13 Patrik 1.5, which we loved.
- Joss Whedon is going to receive the Vanguard Award from the Producer's Guild of America, which honors work in new media. No one quite sure what's being honored though, since Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog was over a year ago, and I can't remember another new media project he's done since.
- I'm going to guess that TNT is beginning to gear up the publicity machine for their airing of Southland next year, because Michael Cudlitz tweeted out this photo from a shoot.
Michael Cudlitz, Regina King, and Ben McKenzie.

- WoW.com has honored gaymers The Stonewall Family as their Guild of the Month for October in the World of Warcraft universe.
- David Sedaris will admit to being anti-technology. In When You Are Engulfed In Flames he devotes whole chapters to the subject. So it should come as no surprise his new audiobook is being released on vinyl. No word on anyone having a functional record player to listen to it.
- If you have Fuse TV, tonight at 9pm they're going to air a wide-ranging interview with Lady GaGa, which we have a preview of below.
- Across the pond in the U.K., Ofcom, which monitors speech in broadcast, has cleared Danni Minogue for her comments on X Factor about Danyl Johnson. Evidently they felt it was as impossible for a Minogue to be homophobic as AfterElton.com readers told me it was.
- Last night while many of us were watching Lady GaGa and Adam Lambert on the American Music Awards, there was a NFL game on NBC. And Chicago Bear Devin Hester got pantsed on national TV*, and nobody, as far as we know, called the FCC or said professional sports should be banned from television. Mores the pity. *warning bare NFL player booty at link, possibly NSFW
- Speaking of the NFL, Jarrett T. Barrios, the president of GLAAD, penned an editorial for ESPN on why the NFL should come out against homophobic speech in their league in the wake of former Kansas City Chief/current Cincinnatti Bengal Larry Johnson.
- According to Mediaite, the death of traditional GLBT media like Window Media will destroy modern media like Pam's House Blend, Towleroad, and maybe even us, because from the sound of it, we just leech off their original reporting.
- On December 7, across the pond in the U.K., Queen Elizabeth will be taking a ride on a disco stick, because Lady GaGa is performing at the annual Royal Variety Performance.
- Last night, the cast of Glee was honored at the Diversity Awards in Los Angeles, and Jenna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley looked stunning for the event.
Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) and Amber Riley (Mercedes) at the Diversity Awards.

- We know reader Liz was disappointed in the turnout for the D.C. vigil for Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado, the slain Puerto Rican teenager. But turnout at the New York City event was considerably higher. And the statement from his mother, which I found on Tumblr, was heartwarming.
When my son told me he was gay, I told him, ‘Now, I love you more.’ I want to tell the world that hatred is not born with human beings, it is a seed that is planted by adults and is fostered creating a climate of intolerance and violence. We must change our ways and understand that anyone …could have been my son. And I want everybody to know that Jorge Steven was a very much loved son.
- Rex Wockner, legendary GLBT journalist has a nice interview with Andy Towle up over on his personal blog. Topics range from why Andy's last name is so hard to spell to his boyfriend, and reminds us that most people making news these days are just regular folks.
- Tonight on Dancing With the Stars Kelly Osbourne and the adorable, out Louis Van Amstel are dancing in the finals. Here they are today on The Ellen DeGeneres Show being nine different kinds of adorable.
- Martha Stewart talks about Sarah Palin, calls her boring, confused and dangerous. Rod 2.0 has video of the queen of domestic bliss saying she wouldn't watch Sarah Palin "...if you paid me."
- I feel compelled, having mentioned Sarah Palin, that Levi Johnson had his Playgirl pictures released this weekend, and well, "meh." The pages I had marked with the full set have been removed, but I'm sure you can find them with a little effort. Trust me: It's not worth even a little effort.
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
