Afternoon Meme: Mrs. Garrett As a Drag Queen, RuPaul's Childhood, Dreaming of the Beach, Sir Elton Won't Back Down

I've never really thought of a PSA as art - important, corny, funny, dumb, sure. Art, no. Then this seatbelt PSA shows up and rocks my world. CNN reports.

RuPaul was due on The Bonnie Hunt Show, and Bonnie thought she'd show her appreciation by trotting out how many times her male staff ended up in dresses. I have to highlight Halloween, where the male staff came as Mrs. Garrett and Tootie, Blair, Natalie and Jo from The Facts of Life.

The interview with RuPaul was in two parts, and both are available on Bonnie's web site, but for whatever reason only part two was embeddable. Still, we can't underestimate just how incredible it was having RuPaul sit down with the Middle America Bonnie Hunt and show childhood photos, clips from Drag Race, and talk about being true to yourself.

I've gone from snow to rain locally, so I went looking for something warm and sunny. But since my life has a natural twisted element, I ended up with a guy making a second story dive into a condo pool. In slow motion, in reverse. I wish I was wherever he is in the video right now. Don't try this yourself, kids.

I was at a wake last night, and had to explain to a lot of family members I see every five years what I do for a living. People seem to think the web just appears magically, by fairies. Oh, wait... But it could be worse, I could be this guy who makes his living whipping crowds at sporting events into a frenzy by dancing like a fool and peeling 100 t-shirts from his body. They'd have me committed.

Everything you ever wanted to know about procrastination, but never got around to asking about. At least I think it is - I'll watch it later.

Tear down your power lines and put in a Bloom Box to power your home. All the cool kids like Google are doing it. Want to know how it works? Tough, because they never really tell you. But I don't know how my inkjet printer works, either - I never hear the jet engines.

General Petraeus went on the weekend shows and stated the obvious: He's not sure the average soldier cares about gays and lesbians serving openly. Everybody knows we're there anyway. What he won't say is how he feels about it. So we're protecting the soldier in the foxhole (wearing pink boxers - loved that photo) from the lecherous homosexuals that they don't worry about, but gays scare the old gray generals into hiding under their desks.

Sir Elton John went on video to clarify his comments on Jesus being gay. He never really backs down on them, just explains his concept of faith a little more. He sounds so rational - that's how you know he's British.

Dr. Who has a new promo out that's best viewed after dropping acid. It's also advancing the arrogance that I've seen creeping into Dr Who lately - he's lord of time and space, but they seem to keep stretching the amount of control he can exert over it. The appeal of The Doctor has always been that he worked with what was there, not that he could change at will the fabric of space and time.

Avatar: The Last Airbender has a new advertising spot for the Olympics. There's a tiny bit of new footage in there. I was more interested in finding the step-by-step guide to making an Appa cake though.
