Afternoon Meme: TNA Impact's Bisexual Wrestler, We Give A Damn, Bradley Cooper's Chest, plus Giant Carnivorous Bunnies
Plus, a surprise director for Avengers, Bill O'Reilly does right when he doesn't have to, Toy Story 3's Ken gets detailed, and Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure!

April Fool's Day Disclaimer: I've done my best to separate real news from fake news today, but well, sometimes it's not completely obvious. Below the Video Meme you'll find a brief roundup of some of the pranks the net has seen today.
I haven’t watched (professional) wrestling since age 4. I
remember a faux gay wedding making the
news a couple years back, but on Monday
night, we arrived in the ring in true form. Bisexual wrestler Orlando Jordan hit the ring as part
of Spike TV’s TNA Impact. Openly bisexual since 2006, this was his first major
outing on television. You can watch
the episode at Spike.TV. Kudos to him, Spike, and the WWE – it was
handled with as much grace as anything in professional wrestling.
Time has given
over their cover this week to Steve Jobs and the launch of the
iPad. It’s suitably fawning, but what would one expect with (out) British
fanboy Stephen Fry doing the interview?
My favorite part is the end, when he notes that the deceased Douglas Adams
would have seen the iPad
as an actual Hitchhiker’s Guide to the
Galaxy.
I'm putting in my earplugs in anticipation of the reaction to this: in what they swear isn’t an April Fool’s Day joke, Joss Whedon is supposedly negotiating to direct Marvel’s Avengers movie.
A Hong Kong man has been admitted to the hospital, claiming he was trying to commit traditional hari kari, except with a cucumber to his backside. Uh, yeah, suicide.
It’s painful to admit, but maybe Bill O’Reilly isn’t Satan. Since the insane judge ruled
a father whose dead son, a fallen war veteran funeral was protested by the Westboro
Baptist Church’s nutjobs has to pay their legal costs, Big Bill stepped in, “That
is an outrage," he said. "I will pay Mr. Snyder's obligation. I am
not going to let this injustice stand."

Click on over to Chris Hardwick’s website. He’s not naked again (boo!) but he’s got the new Muppet version of “Stand By Me” in which many bunnies find their demise.
Which probably explains where all the rabbits in New York City’s Central Park
have gone, since it’s been four years since they last
spotted a wild rabbit.
Newsweek reaches to tie Ricky Martin’s coming out to some new studies saying that countries with anti-gay laws have unhappier people and higher HIV infection rates. As much as I love the spin on this, correlation of oppressive regimes with unhappy people isn’t really groundbreaking.
I was tipped by reader SubT to a great little song by Dan and Dan mocking our favorite British newspaper, The Daily Mail. No worries about the link – it takes you to The Guardian.
Piranha 3D director
Alexandre Aja says he knows what 3D is for, and it’s not about flying
blue
dragons, or indeed training a dragon. It’s all about “3D Double-D Boobs”
and he promises to deliver in his movie. Goody?
Lee Unkrich, who has an unhealthy obsession with chimpanzees, is the director of Toy Story 3, which he promises doesn’t suck. He also talks extensively about Ken in this interview, and makes me think he’s planning on skating on the razor’s edge with the character. If it were anyone but Pixar, I’d be worried.
…we talked about this particular Ken we envisioned. He's maybe not the brightest guy, very into clothes, and we're creating this conceit of a Ken that had never met a Barbie, and a Barbie that had never met a Ken or known of their existence, which we thought was very funny. We pitched our take on Ken to Mattel, as well as this particular Ken from the '80s we wanted to use. They were on board completely. We also shared with them an early pitch of the movie so they could see how Ken was being used in the film. I can't speak to whether they were nervous in any way at all, but at the end of the day I think we did a good job respecting the character but making him very funny and particular as well.
There’s some Glee
stuff from the Spurf™, but the only part of it I don’t remember hearing is Chris
Colfer demanding that when they
cast his boyfriend, he gets to be the pretty one. Spurf™
also seems to lose track of his own spoilers when he teases that Finn will be offered a threesome like
he hasn’t already told us who offers.
Disney is spinning off Sharpay from their High School Musical franchise in a film originally titled Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure (now rumored as Broadway Bound). Ashley Tisdale is reprising her role, but no word on if Lucas Grabeel, who played her coded-gay brother Ryan, will appear in the film.
Happy Birthday to my favorite lesbian in the world. Rachel Maddow turns 37 today. And before somebody complains about the picture I chose: I went looking for this photo, I love Rachel nerded like this, maybe after a cocktail. I think it's the true heart of Rachel.
Happy Birthday, Ms. Maddow!
Even the animal kingdom exaggerates size at times. I don't know if this lemur is talking about a fish he caught, or dictating his Manhunt profile.
King Julian, is that you?
Step-by-step instructions for creating Peepshi, which I am so doing for Easter Dinner. Why can't I ever think of this stuff first?
Calling my dentist now.
OK, maybe dogs can be just as evil as cats.
I've got a buddy potty training his youngest kid. I'm going to secretly install a Toilet Monster and see what happens.
Think I'll be invited back?
The Seven Deadly Sins presented on a a map.
I'll be spending the rest of my day contemplating what this monkey was contemplating.
The Give A Damn campaign has kicked off as part of the True Colors Fund, and the goddess that is Cyndi will tell you how you can "Give A Damn about GLBT rights." Here's a basic video, but there's so much more. Oh, and welcome to the club, Anna Paquin!
I'm on the record as pretty much hating all remakes. But even I have to admit that this trailer for The A-Team is epic. It's funny, things go boom, and Bradley Cooper looks amazing.
Less interesting is the trailer for Angelina Jolie in Salt, which is interesting mostly for the fact that Salt was originally a man until she was cast, so it does have a certain feminine power vibe going on.
Let's take a look at some of the April Fool's Day silliness, shall we?
First, FunnOrDie.com chose to rebrand as if 16-year-old Justin Bieber had purchased it and renamed it BieberOrDie.com, which brings together a different visual than they were perhaps intending. But they remade some of the best viral videos of the year, and this one of Bieber Goes to the Dentist works mostly because he looks like a 4-year-old, just like the original.
ABC got into the act on their website.
And ThinkGeek.com has some great fake gadgets, but like everyone else, this iCade is my favorite.
We also have news of the "reboot" of Iron Man, even before Iron Man 2 is released, which sounds about the right timeline for Hollywood.
ABC has announced that after the warm reception of the V Countdown Clock Tuesday night, all of their prime time programming for the next month will feature an onscreen countdown clock for the series finale of Lost.
Project Runway is going to do a "Heroes vs. Villains" season, just like Survivor.
Mel Gibson has been cast as George Michael in the singer's upcoming biopic.
Engadget and Techcrunch each have their own nerd-related lists of April Fool's Day jokes.
Huffington Post has a continuously updated list.
