"The Daily Show" Says What We're All Thinking, While Colbert Says What They're All Thinking About DADT

The budget for graphics has obviously been cut.

Comedy can get away with saying things that we in polite society can't get away with. So on the same day that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen penned a open letter on Defense.gov advocating an end to Don't Ask, Don't Tell, our biggest allies brought out the big guns.

I don't want to beat the joke to death, but Jon Stewart and John Oliver said what everybody knows about our rights: we'll get them when some old people finally retire and/or die. It's not pretty when you say it like that, but it sure is funny when they say it:

Stephen Colbert, naturally, stayed in character as a conservative that would make the late Senator Jesse Helms do a double-take. But when he proposed an exhaustive survey of "military leaders" to back up Senator McCain, I nearly did a spit take.

What do you think of our best straight allies? Do you think they went right to the heart of the matter?
