Daytime Drive By (July 28, 2009)

Apropos of nothing, but thanks to keithers for the tip

Having trouble keeping up with the many gay boys cropping up on U.S. daytime soaps these days? We're here to help with our new regular feature Daytime Drive By, where we give you the rundown on Luke, Rafe, Fish and all the rest of the gay gang. Look for DDB whenever we don't have a liveblog and something gay happens on daytime television that you just have to know about!

Today we swing by Genoa City to mostly to just gawk at the mancandy and catch up on our favorite crazy cat lady. Then a quick swing through Oakdale to see what Henry's mother thinks of his drag persona.

Genoa City

So we’ve got a lot of characters we don’t care about whining about how much their lives suck despite being beautiful and rich.

Billy and Cane continue screaming at each other concerning who’s the better son to Jill: Bio-straight son Billy; Bio-gay son Phillip; non-bio, fake, straight son Cane.

Jill's version of My Three Sons

OMG! It’s Mary Jane in the same alley, with Mac bringing her some basic toiletries.  This is evidently behind the shelter Mac volunteers at. Mary Jane tells Mac she’s not going to a shelter, while Jack and Victor discuss the “gift” kitty left outside Sharon’s room at the club.

And we remember Mary Jane is all about Jack and whoever he's with.

This is what I love about Y&R – they’ve taken Mary Jane and connected her to Victor Newman, Jack Abbot, Paul Williams, Adam Wilson, and now with Mac, you’ve got the Chancellors looped into it. That’s the whole cast, in a single storyline.

Somehow, Billy walks up on Mac in the alley, and Mary Jane ducks behind a dumpster. She and Mac bond after he leaves.

Cane goes to visit Lily in the hospital, and I would have nodded off, except he flexed his arm when the priest dropped the door in his face.

If they dress him in baggy clothes, I'll forget he's there.

Mac agrees to give Mary Jane a safe place to stay, and it’s not the shelter. We then see Victor flashing back through Mary Jane’s entire stint on the show.

Mary Jane no longer has to live on the alley set.

Mac installs Mary Jane in a store room at the bar.

I’m trying to figure out how it’s all going to work out. Mary Jane came to town via a cover story and plastic surgery (so good her brother doesn't know her) from Victor to screw with Jack. Since then, she's got in tight with Adam. Now Mac.

  • Which character gets in trouble because of Mary Jane: Adam or Victor?
  • Which character gets hurt by Mary Jane? Mac, Billy, Sharon, Jack, Paul, or Nikki?
  • Will we ever see an actual gay relationship, or just gay plots?

Oakdale

Henry’s mother Audrey shows up having seen him in drag. She makes some cracks about supporting her daughter in his choices. She’s such a hot mess ! She looks and talks a lot like a slutty Sara Palin, to be honest.

Henry's mom is going to be awesome soap trouble!

Henry’s not having it, and wants to know what man kicked her out. Daughters may marry their fathers, but Henry definitely dated his mother with Vienna!

Look at that jacket - I am without words.

Henry brings mommy over to visit Katy and Brad, who were trying to have sexy times, and prevents us from seeing Brad shirtless.

We're gonna park in Oakdale until tomorrow, but until then ponder:

  • Is there any man, gay or straight, that can pull off Henry's wardrobe?
  • What's the blast radium going to be when Holden, Lily and Lucinda gang up on Luke?
  • How much Photoshop fun do you think I can have with the picture at the top?
