Daytime Drive By (August 4, 2009)

Look out, Jack! Mary Jane's coming for you!

Having trouble keeping up with the many gay boys cropping up on U.S. daytime soaps these days? We're here to help with our new regular feature Daytime Drive By, where we give you the rundown on Luke, Rafe, Fish and all the rest of the gay gang. Look for DDB whenever we don't have a liveblog and something gay happens on daytime television that you just have to know about!

So, yesterday Mary Jane drugged Jack. And Billy flitted between storylines. Buckle up, because rumor has it, Chance has a facial expression today. Oh, and the teaser of Michael Baldwin? That's just his new Twitter picture. I thought I'd share.

Genoa City

Billy carries Jack out of the dive bar, which I’m sure feels odd, as he’s the one normally being carted out. Proving they want to get their money out of this new bar set they built, Katherine, the billionaire recovering alcoholic walks in and orders a club soda.

Chance gets a phone call that causes him to emote. Chloe even comments “It’s about time.” She thinks he’s got a date.

Maybe he just needs burping, but it looks like a smile.

Billy drops Jack on his couch and covers him with a blanket, and turns out the lights on his way out. Jack rolls over and sees a dark figure.

Chance tells her it’s not a girl-girl (ick!) but an interview to be a police detective that has him excited. He wants to work for a living for some odd reason.

This patch on his uniform sleeve last month was important. Sneaky!

Jill makes a grand entrance complaining about her son ratting her out to Victor, and Billy walks up behind her.

Katherine guilts Mac about having an affair with a married man. Why a broken home for Dehlia matters to Katherine, thinking about the rest of her family, may actually make sense.

When we come back to the Living Room That Time Forgot, we see Chance with his arm telegraphing his desires, and Billy delivering a verbal beatdown to Jill, telling her “Even in a recession she should be able to do what she does best, find lonely rich old men who need companionship.” Ouch.

Y&R usually doesn't telegraph plots this obviously. So it's obviously doomed.

A fuzzy shape in fuchsia lingerie and a turban begins sexually molesting drugged out Jack on the couch. He thinks it’s Sharon. In a fuchsia turban. I want some of those drugs, because they must be good.

Billy continues ripping Jill apart until Chance steps in and demands he apologize. I’m torn, because you just don’t talk to your mommy like that, and on the other hand, Joan Crawford has got nothing on Jill Abbott.

At least she was there for childhood.

Jack wakes up alone, naked, and feeling violated. Been there. He calls out to Sharon, but nothing. Then he finds, and I can’t get this out for laughing, a note tucked under Mr. Kitty’s tail, professing his love for Mary Jane. We get the flashback to Crimson Lights with Jack inquiring to the health of Mr. Kitty in the pink carrier.

We see Mary Jane enter the bar where Mac’s let her stay, and says she’s leaving. Don’t worry, if she actually leaves, we’ll see her again in about nine months.

Katherine comes in and reminds Billy that Jill’s used to being hated, and he’s the only one that’s going to suffer by him holding Jill accountable. There’s also an implied threat, he’s unaware of, that she knows he’s banging Mac. He leaves with no promises.

Chance mentions he shouldn’t have interfered, considering his daddy issues. He slowly tries talking to her that she should quit pining over Billy.  She gives him a peck on the cheek, and they tease us that he’s going in for a real kiss…

Can't help but notice they don't show his face during this segment.

We see Mary Jane at the bar with a pregnancy test. Despite the million dollar reward, no one else does, and she slips out before Billy sees her, since he's busy with his baby daughter, that he brought to a bar.

Careful what kind of bottle you give that baby.

…and Chance turns it into an eyelash wish. Once she goes, Jill enters and catches him grinning like an idiot. He hugs her and exits.

Katherine enters and owns up to every mistake she made with Jill, and Jill throws it all back in her face. I now understand Phillip III completely.

Everything continues coming to a head all week, and all the stories are mixed up, so we'll probably be back to see if Paul's brother, in town for Paul's wedding to Nikki, recognizes Mary Jane is Paul's sister - Paul the detective. Until then:

  • Does Mary Jane end up escaping town unnoticed?
  • Is Chance really doing the love-at-first-sight thing, or compensating for something?
  • Every character is in every storyline on this show, is that better or worse than ATWT's little boxes?

For all the ATWT goodness, I've liveblogged it here.
