Sneak Peak: "Glee" Goes "Dancing With Myself" This Week
Oh, Glee, how I've missed you. We've wasted weeks with grown men playing with their bats and balls, but this Wednesday, my nine o'clock hour is back to normal with your "Wheels" episode. And from the clips that were just posted at E! it's been worth the wait. I see drama with Chris and Rachel over a song, Sue is being evil, and I see Mr. Shu being noble and making the rest of New Directions understand what Artie's life must be like. Oh, Artie - I've been waiting for your solo after peeks at your voice in other numbers, most notably a bluesy turn in "Gold Digger" but whatever I was expecting out of your solo, I have to admit it wasn't Billy Idol. I'm a little disturbed that this appears to be another fantasy sequence cheat on the show's part, but finally getting to know some of the cast that have essentially been the background scenery makes it worth it. And it looks like we may have yet another teen crush on our hands. So what did you think? Excited? E! has a few more dialog clips here worth checking out. And thanks to reader Whitetee for spotting this.

Conflicts come to a head this week.

Nouvelle Vague
It doesn't diminish this cover, but the Glee version is definitely inspired by Nouvelle Vague's version from a few years ago:

Musical and fantasy segments...
Well it's not really fantasy
Big week for Billy Idol
Ugly Betty also made good use of Dancing By Myself at the close of Friday's show.
What a great cover by Artie. His voice is a fantastic match to the style and lyrics of the song. Can't wait to see the whole episode.
Having already added Glee,
Fantasy musical sequences
I don't truly care about fantasy
Actually, it matters not to me one way or the other - all I typically ask of shows is internal consistency. When this thing started, Ryan Murphy said is was not going to be High School Musical with kids breaking into song as they walk down the hallway. Then they broke that rule with Mercedes and "Bust Your Windows", and several press sites covered the inconsistency. They've stayed fairly far from it since. That's why when they dip into that style, it's jarring.
I love the show, I don't get worked up with the Chenowith 40 yo high schooler or stuff like that - it's internally consistent to the show having the other school flunking their star singer.
And really, I like the musical performances, so fantasy sequences only bother me in that Murphy said there wouldn't be fantasy musical sequences.
