Glee Gets Racy When Will Serenades Emma With "The Thong Song"

Why doesn't the show save money and let him reuse his old Broadway costumes?

We know we've got a rap from Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) to "Bust-A-Move" in this week's episode of Glee. And Puck channels Neil Diamond in a surprisingly smooth "Sweet Caroline" to win over the ladies hearts.

I knew we'd be hearing a racy version of Sisqo's "The Thong Song" somewhere in the episode. But what I didn't realize was that Will would be performing again with this.

I'm not sure what the setup is, but you've got Emma in a wedding dress, and Will rapping and dancing around her in a way that probably made her forget her fiance entirely. I know most thoughts fled my mind along with blood supply to my brain.

What do you think? Does the performance make up for the song itself? And if the show wants to show off Matthew Morrison's dancing (which I'm totally in favor of), can't they find more organic ways of doing it?

    I love Matt, but ...

That song is ... just horrible. The fact it was such a huge hit reminds me again why I only listen to 80's music.

    Oh, I have to agree!

Oh, I have to agree!  Will's character is so terrific, but the rap/hip-hop he does is tiresome.  It's like your father, or at least a much older brother, trying to be cool...

And *sigh*, why can't he wear more costumes like he does in the top photo?

    I'm confused

I admit, I loved the song when I was a kid. I mean, it was the one song that played on constant rotation in my neighborhood, lol. I just don't see how it fits the scene though. Emma is about to get married, and so Will serenades her with the Thong Song? Wouldn't it have been more fitting for something like Brian McKnight's Back at One, or even Next's Wifey, or something. The Thong Song? Really.... I guess the show wanted to have fun with the scene....but it just seems completely out of place.

Also, shouldn't Emma be terrified by how close Will got to her, especially when he hiked up her dress? Why the sudden change in character?

I'm hoping that this is just a fantasy sequence...

Please, let that be the case.  Otherwise, you are right this is totally against character and an inappropriate song choice.  Unless, there was a conversation preceding the clip, that we missed....

Well, the show has shown before that Will is maybe the one person who can help her get past her issues.  He got away with putting the chalk on her nose and then wiping it off.   Granted, that's different than the level of closeness shown here, but it's not completely out of the blue to have Will be the one exception to Emma's rules.

    The raciness in some

The raciness in some episodes of Glee really bothers me.  It's not funny or sexy; it's just awkward.  A mixed group of grown men and teenagers singing "I Want to Sex You Up" to the PTA is just inappropriate, and it clashes with the sweetness the show often tries to have.  It's not edgy entertainment, and needs to stop trying to be.

    Sorry, totally disagree

It's too bad you're bothered by what you deem racy and inappropriate in Glee but that's the whole point of this show - to be racy, inappropriate, politically incorrect.

Don't know where you get "sweetness" from but that's not the show I've been watching and enjoying each week. Any show with a character like Sue Sylvester stealing every scene she's in is most certainly not sweet.

    Glee raciness

Have you watched the show?  It's been racy from the beginning.  It's not High School Musical.

I think I'll reserve judgement untill I've actually seen the show.  But as far as I'm concerned anything that get's that picture of Matthew Morrison on the site makes me happy.

    Set-up for the song

Emma's intended wanted a wedding song he could "shake his money-maker to," according to the previews.

I love the Golddigger cover he performed earlier this season, so I am curious about this one.

    Is it just me?

Does anybody else really want to see Justin Timberlake guest star as Will's brother?  I can see Victor Garber being the father to both of them.  But probably something other than D*** in a Box.  Maybe give Mr. Garber a chance to dust off his Godspell shoes?

    This song...

Is the reason I stopped listening to broadcast radio and bought an iPod. I love Matthew's portrayal of Will, but they have to find better songs for him.
