Morning Meme: Wearing Robert Pattinson, the Other Evans Brother Speaks, and Hugh Laurie Sings the Blues
Plus Tiffany vs. Deborah Gibson, The Pee-Wee Herman Show, and Eric McCormack states his importance to the gay movement.
Zac Efron has signed on to star in a Nicholas Sparks movie, The Lucky One. And he seemed like he had
such a promising career.
Shockingly, a cricket match got interesting. No, it wasn’t the game, and no one started to announce what was happening in language that made sense. A meteorite smacked into the ground and rebounded into a spectator.
An open letter from Shaun Proulx to gay men over 40-years-old. Fortunately, I’m only 38.
Shortbus director John Cameron Mitchell is always good for a quote. At the red carpet for Robert Duvall’s Get Low, he was asked what he’d like to see at his own funeral. “I want David Bowie to be singing with Lou Reed and Iggy Pop, a trio of 'Satellite of Love,' and I would like, say, MDMA handed around. Don’t you think?”
Castle
inexplicably had a panel at Comic-Con, and creator Andrew Marlowe issued the Neil Patrick Harris Challenge
to Nathan Fillion’s Dr. Horrible costar. “"I think he's
scared to come on the show because of your level of talent. I challenge Neil to
come on the show. We will write a role for him.”
Rufus Wainwright has scheduled a concert at Carnegie Hall for December 29th to perform All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu.
In a new interview, Eric
McCormack seems to echo some of Sean
Hayes'
sentiments about the importance of Will &
Grace to the gay rights movement.
Of the criticism that Will was a neutered gay, “Will had as much sex on
camera as anybody on Friends had on camera. It's a sitcom. Nobody has sex on
camera. Will had lots of dates. Will was dating Patrick Dempsey and he married
Taye Diggs.”
He then added, “So, while Queer As Folk or something might have been a more true representation of how the gay community, particularly in cities, lives, I don't think you could find as many young gay people that would say, 'Because my parents watched Queer As Folk, I was able to come out to them.' What they do say is, 'Because my mom loved Will Truman or thought Jack was funny, I was able to tell them when I was 15 or 17 that I was gay,' and the show broke ground in that way.”
Daniel Craig will play journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the American remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, as well as the sequels. This doesn’t bode well for the next James Bond films happening anytime soon.
Hugh Laurie
is going to record a blues album. He’s proven himself to
be musically competent on House, but
says “I know the history of actors making music is a checkered one, but I
promise no one will get hurt.”
The Top Ten New Species of 2009 have been named. You’re not going to want any of these things for a pet though.
This is the man that invented the vuvuzela. NORAD, commence countdown.
Marks & Spencer says that their new line of low-rise men’s underwear is named the R-Pant, after Robert Pattinson’s predilection for
low-rise jeans. I’ve always
felt it was more important to wear cute underwear
and show the waistband and protect against plumber’s crack than it was to wear
something so low-cut you can’t see it.
President Obama is making history by being the first sitting U.S. president to go on a daytime talk show when he appears on The View Thursday. The question I have is who is going to make the first embarrassing statement, Joy or Elisabeth? Or will Sherri jump to an early lead. Barbara Walters will appear despite still recovering from heart surgery.
This George Takei
Q&A from a screening of Star Trek VI
last week has too much goodness to try and cherry pick pieces. You
should just go watch and
come back. I’ll wait for you.
Mad Men has the highest percentage of affluent viewers of any show on cable at a staggering 48%. The next nearest show is 29%. I’m surprised it’s not higher, because these days only the affluent can afford their cable bills.
Blabbeando does
a great round up of the attention from GLAAD and Good As You on the
Spanish language program José Luis Sin
Censura, which he describes as "The Jerry Springer Show with no concern
shown for FCC fines, particularly in their demeaning portrayal of gays,
lesbians, women and transgender folk.” He provides some fairly horrifying
translations, as well as action links.
GLAAD says that Fox is preparing to air the offensive transphobic Family Guy episode with Quagmire’s father. Earlier this month they also re-aired “A Brown Thanksgiving” episode of The Cleveland Show, despite assuring GLAAD last year that they would never air it again. They urge action through the Family Guy publicist, and provide contact information at the link.
