Watch and Discuss (and Donate): "We Are The World 25" Official Video for Haiti

Why is Vince Vaughan singing?

After the Grammy Awards, more than 80 musicians and celebrities came together to record a new version of "We Are the World" to raise money for Haiti disaster relief. The original "We Are the World" was written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson 25 years ago for Africa, and produced by Quincy Jones.

The song itself is the same this time, though the execution bothers me. They really emphasized the tween set, with Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus front and center, and I have no idea why that Pussycat Doll was so prominent. I found the use of Auto-Tune not just distracting, but a crime against the big voices that were present, like Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige.

I also found it a bit creepy that the video spliced in footage of Michael Jackson singing the original overlaid with his sister Janet.

Still, I hope the song sells. You can buy the song through iTunes or through the official website.

The song and the video premiered last night during the broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, so they got the word out. What do you think?
