Antony Cotton named Best Actor at UK Inside Soap Awards

Actor and chat show host Antony Cotton was named Best Actor at last night’s Inside Soap Awards in London. The openly gay actor scooped the gong for his role in Coronation Street, as lovable gay barman Sean Tully.

"I've won the big one this year, and I'm very very pleased that they chose me. I don't act because of it but it's nice that someone thinks I'm doing well,” said Cotton.

It was a great night for the soap in general, which walked away with five out of fourteen trophies, most notable being the gong for Best Soap. Usually reserved for rival soap Eastenders, it was the first time in over a decade that Coronation Street had won the award.

Alas, our favourite Hollyoaks couple Guy Burnett and James Sutton (Craig and John-Paul) failed to win the award for best couple, losing out to Lacey Turner and Charlie Clements (Stacey and Bradley) from Eastenders.

The Inside Soap Awards are voted for by readers of Inside Soap magazine. The below pic is of Cotton with Charlie Condou, who plays his onscreen boyfriend Marcus, at the event.

Oh for fooks sake...he is

Oh for fooks sake...he is not the Best Actor thankyou very much. Why can't they bloomin' do a separate category for Most Popular Actor, eh? Because that's what he his... James Sutton and Matthew P. Sheppard could run circles round him many times in the actual 'acting' stakes. It just annoys me because not only did he win the British Soap Award for Best Actor, but dear James Sutton has lost out on it again...and he deserves it much much more! I just hope the British Soap Awards doesn't let us down again next year, because the last two weeks of Hollyoaks, with the Craig/John Paul reveal and then subsequent break-up, has blown all the other soaps out of the water. It will be a travesty if they don't at least get Best Storyline.

Sean's boyfriend is a hotty though :D.

What a disgrace...

This is an absolute disgrace that the arrogant Antony Cotton won for best actor. This is pure BS. Antony Cotton isn't acting in Corrie, he's playing himself. The fix must truly be in because I can't believe that this guy not only stole the trophy from Sutton at the BSA, but now at the ISA. James Sutton is one of the finest actors in any of the SOAPs...full stop! and is a far superior actor compared to Cotton. The JP/Craig storyline on HollyOaks has be incredible. From the reveal to their parting, nothing in the SOAP world could touch it. This past year i've watched some of the finest acting in a SOAP from Sutton and Burnett in decades. I have faith that the BSA will come through since the JP/Craig storyline has propelled HollyOaks into the limelight with respected newspapars outlets which normally ignored this SOAP in the past, but now are giving it much praise . I believe there will be plenty of awards for HollyOaks at the BSA, with James Sutton and Guy Burnett leading the way.

And on a sidenote...I wonder if Antony Cotton relizes just how many viewers dispise him and find him totally annoying and full of himself?

Another side note...I must add that at the ISA yesterday Cotton did bring himself to complement HollyOaks for having a great year. Maybe he felt just a fraction  of guilt knowing he didn't deserve that award last night.

Could you post some of the artcles?

The newspaper articles praising the story. I'd really like to read them, because it seems like this show is so ignored :(

Easy stereotype

People feel more comfortable with the camp, bitchy gay man. A complex gay man who has a complex love life, like John Paul, they may not be as compelled to award the actor who plays that part.

This story was so good, it's very sad that Hollyoaks has not been awarded.

100% Cotton

There is an interview with Antony Cotton just posted over at Digital Spy from last nights Inside Soap Awards. Why is this man so bitter? And he has a mouth like a sewer. Apparently he will be getting a steady boyfriend on Corrie and he almost shouted how it will not be a 'sensational' storyline, just more or less ordinary, and they WILL end up as a long term couple. You could tell he was taking jabs at HollyOaks and the JP/Craig story. This only demonstrated his resentment at all the attention the gay storyline on HollyOaks is getting. He also shoved his award up to the camera, boasting about his win. A little modesty would have been nice.

I know he is pissed at James Sutton who did mention if he had to play John Paul like Cotton's character on Corrie he wouldn't do it. Little did James know he was insulting Antony Cotton who more or less plays himself.

The Inside Soap Awards...

... are voted for by viewers of Inside Soap magazine. I'm not sure what the average age range of the mag's readership is, but no doubt a large proportion of them are probably going to be more interested in Coro than Hollyoaks. Just a thought.

But yes, both Guy Burnet and James Sutton's acting skills blows Antony Cotton's out of the water. So in terms of acting ability, either of those two were far more deserving than Cotton. No question.
