Fancy getting Shipwrecked?

It was one of the hottest shows of 2007 and now Channel 4 is giving wannabe castaways the chance to get Shipwrecked all over again. Yes, that’s right folks; if you fancy spending five months on a beautiful desert island in the South Pacific, surrounded by white sandy beaches and crystal-clear blue water, (not to mention some top totty!) then here’s your chance.

Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands is a UK reality television series that was first broadcast in 2006. The premise of the show sees a group of ten castaways split into two teams and placed on two opposing desert islands. But instead of voting off members, they have to persuade new arrivals to join their island in an attempt to outnumber their rivals in order to bag the £70,000 prize money awarded to the winning island at the end of the series.

The two tribes, the Tigers and the Sharks live on the previously unihabited Pacific islands of Motoraku and Rapota in the heart of the South Pacific. The original teams comprised of Shark boys Stevie Thomas, Joe Stone, Stuart Mann, Will Colin and Lorenzo Preecha; and Tiger girls Fiona Merry, Lianne Dauban, Lucy Buchanan, Terri Jones, and Sophia Wardman.

One of the most memorable contestants from the last series (if not them all!) was openly gay 19-year-old Joe Stone. A creative writing student and perhaps the world’s biggest Spice Girls fan (yes, really!), Joe remained a vocal presence throughout the competition. Who can forget his most memorable moment (not to mention one of the show’s grossest): drinking his own urine in return for a single marshmallow! (Check out the video and more after the jump...)

At the end of five months, after many disagreements, the odd island romance, and a few twists and turns – not least which saw two contestants from the previous series decide the overall outcome of the show – the Tigers managed to somehow claw their way back into the game to win it, with fifteen tribe members, compared to the Sharks, who had fourteen.

Unlike the previous two series, next year, castaways will be competing for total prize money of £100,000. So, if you’re over 18 and fancy an extended holiday with a difference, and think you could cut it as a castaway, why not check out the official Channel 4 website for more information.
